Lastchance 0 #1 January 29, 2008 My wife and I just returned from our vetrinarian. We just had to have one of out two best friends put to sleep. My wife had had Jasmine for 11 yrs and I've been in the picture for 7. Jazz lived for chasing the ball. It was her lifes work. To make a long story short she had bone cancer in her jaw that we've been dealing with for several months. The balls she played with steadily got smaller as she couldn't open her mouth very far. In the last week she could only eat small food and would swallow it whole. Tara took her to the vet yesterday and they wanted us to bring her back today so they could do X-rays to see if anything could be done. Nothing could. So with us by her side the vet did the last thing he could to take her pain away. Jazz sat on the couch with me for the last time this morning as I scratched her ears and petted her. I thought she would be coming back home tonight. I just had to write something about her. We will miss her incredibly. No longer will she meet me coming down the drive way when I get home from work. I looked forward to that every night. RIP Jazz. There is no more pain. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.

Nightingale 0 #4 January 29, 2008 I am so sorry for your loss. This poem helped me a lot after my cat died. I still can't read it without crying, but maybe it will help you too. Rainbow Bridge Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... from www.petloss.com
livendive 8 #5 January 29, 2008 That's very sad. It sounds like Jazz had a nice long run at being a good dog and you and your wife did right by her. You both have my condolences. Jewels 0 #8 January 29, 2008 Those losses are so tough. Pets aren't perfect, but in many ways they are able to keep from letting us down in many of the ways people can--and they ask so very little in return! Saying goodbye is terribly difficult to do. My heart goes out to you and your wife.TPM Sister #
dannydan 5 #9 January 29, 2008 Sorry for yr loss you two!.... RIP JAZZ!Not joking here, but are ya gonna do an ash dive? Lastchance 0 #10 January 29, 2008 Not inappropriale at all. As a matter of fact thats a great idea. We will have her ashes back in about 10 days and I wasn't quite sure what to do. I jump into my backyard on occasion and that would be a great reason to do another one. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands. Lastchance 0 #11 January 29, 2008 Thanks for the poem. That same one was on the wall at the clinic and we read it when we left. It will be good to see her again with her favorite Jazz slobbered tennis ball in her mouth again. She was a loyal and faithful companion. Dogs really are mans best friend. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
Lastchance 0 #12 January 29, 2008 Thanks to you and everybody who has posted a reply on this. Jazz was a wonderful dog. Always there with a slobbered up tennis ball when I needed to throw my arm out. We finally started using a racket. Thanks again to everybody. It helps. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
CSpenceFLY 1 #13 January 30, 2008 Our Shakey(RoamingDZ.DOG) is going on 12yrs and we are dreading the day we might have to make that decision. You did the right thing cause an animal does not know why they are in pain all the time.

The_Don 0 #16 January 30, 2008 It's a very very hard thing to do. I've had to say goodbye to many times. Take a little comfort in this thought. With you, she had a better life than most dogs. I'm even willing to bet that she was so spoiled that she had a better life than some people! From one dog lover to another. Don. I am NOT being loud. I'm being enthusiastic! iluvtofly 0 #24 January 30, 2008 I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a pet. That poem that was posted earlier was given to me by my vet when I lost my cat this past summer. Still to this day I cry whenever I read it. I feel sometimes that pets are almost better then people cause their love is trully unconditional. (At least in my experience.) Once again I'm very sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to you and your wife.
