skycop 0 #1 January 24, 2008 I just bought a Yamaha Vmax. Any other Vmax owners out there? Is so any feedback. It's my first bike in a while, so I went deep. I've wanted one for 20yrs and was finally able to get one. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

squirrel 0 #5 January 24, 2008 I have a '93. I went for a ride on one in 85...and had to have one some day. Ok, so there are lots of web sites out there regarding the Vmax wobble you might get at around 85 mph or so. Some suggest an adjustment on the neck tourqe..."furbur" fix. I put a drag bars on mine, with a very slight angle in them...the problem went away, and the I like the ridding position better. I have been told it was the length of the original bars, length of moment force, excetra. now, you will notice that the frame on the right side is bolted together...this is because the frame is from a small bike, and yamaha had to cut the frame to mount the massive engine. this will cause frame flex under power....careful. i painted the skins on mine flat black...the true color of raw power. just google for more...these are cult bikes, and i love mine...and love to smoke HDs all day. these bikes are not really that "practical"...but neither is skydiving! congrats. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? skycop 0 #6 January 24, 2008 I rode one 20yrs ago and smoked the rear tire in three gears. Thank for the feedback, any more would be helpful! I bought an 94, the style really never changed. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
squirrel 0 #7 January 24, 2008 your right...no real changes in over 20 years. Well, the talk on the street is that there will be no more vmax production after 2007...but, I have a friend that works at yamaha....and I have seen a picture, that I can not show...of a possible new Vmax...and it looks awsome...rumor is that it is around 200hp. try vmaxoutlaw.com to start. then, http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/2476/handling.htm#weave lots of info....just use google or yahoo. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? skycop 0 #9 January 24, 2008 That is one of the things I wanted, plus it has highway pegs. My wife doesn't like it but my kids do........ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
Squeak 17 #10 January 24, 2008 they dont like corners but can go blindingly fast in a straight line You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
skycop 0 #11 January 24, 2008 That is my thing, 0-60 as fast as I can go, not a corner guy. I'm really a pretty conservative rider, minus acceleration. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
squirrel 0 #12 January 24, 2008 I bought mine after I sold my 67 GT 500 shelby (yes, it was real, #0194 of 2049, not like the movie, and yes, i miss it...but, it paid off my debts and got me into real estate)...had to have some straight line power! ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? skycop 0 #14 January 24, 2008 That's why I said 60.................duh The saying applies, 9 your fine, 10 your mine. With that said, I don't do much traffic, membership has it's perks. Mickochet 0 #16 January 24, 2008 I wanted a v-max since they came out, but when I could afford one I bought an 04 R-1. A buddy later bought a v-max. After I rode his I was very happy that I went with the R-1, there is no comparison the r-1 is way faster than the v-max and handles like a dream. 103 mph in first gear, the front wheel will come off of the pavement almost at will just with a turn of the throttle. If you never fall down you aren't trying hard enough.
