jtval 0 #1 January 21, 2008 SPOILERS BELOW Kendall Grove….WOW! He was just over whelmed. Lambert V Gouveia Very quiet fight (the audience was so quiet it was creepy) Lambert did a good job but was almost caught with some quick submissions. But then as MMA goes, he gets KO’d with one of the few shots Gouveia threw. Simply amazing. The UK crowd was Q.U.I.E.T.!! Jess Liaudin V Marcus Davis I LIKE Marcus Davis’ fights. Paul Taylor V Paul Kelly I watched this fight in fast speed….its was amazing. Those guys have TONS of heart. I cant wait to see them again. BTW- the crowd wasn’t quiet. Gonzaga V Werdum I missed most of the 2nd round. Apparently that’s where the momentum swung. Those KICKS were deadly though. I didn’t know Gonzaga broke Coutures arm Penn V Stevenson. I thought BJ said his Cardio was in top shape. He dominated the fight BUT he was either half passed out from exhaustion OR he was acting to throw off Shawn Sherk. I’d be curious to see the fight without the cut. I WAS routing for BJ but I wonder if he got lucky. Colin Robinson looked like someone’s science teacher. Maybe it’s time to go back to the beakers. Sakara V Lee…WTF??? Did Lee belong anywhere other than a school yard fight? It was comical. I noticed A LOT of the fighter’s putting water on their feet. Does that help with traction? Anyone know?My photos My Videos
dan_iv 0 #2 January 21, 2008 Yep, the mat can be slick if you have completely dry feet. I was very pleased with the event, more KO's than any other card last year and some pretty exciting fights. Davis has some BOMBS in his gloves. Grove looked horrible. GG, just can't beat Werdum... Joe was outclassed from beginning to end regardless of the cut. I give him tons of credit for giving it his all but right now there's no way he matches up with Penns skillset.
jtval 0 #3 January 22, 2008 What about the battle of the Pauls? It was like I wathced the fight in fast speed. I wished Paul Taylor had a little better ground game but either way I think that was my fav fight of the night. BJ Penn: "Shawn sherk is(you're) dead." Shawn Sherk: somethin about that belt not being real since he never lost. ( I agree) BJ Penn: It'll gonna be a good fight (taps fists with Shawn) Really made shawn look like a dickhead My photos My Videos
chinagirl 0 #4 January 22, 2008 Damn it. I didn't get to watch the fight because stupid DVR didn't record. Waiting for rerun on Tuesday and reorder it again. I read that BJ put on a great performance. True or was it just hype? (I like Stevenson's attitude but never really thought he had a chance with a veteran like BJ.)~Built for Abuse www.skydivethefarm.com
BillyVance 34 #5 January 22, 2008 I was just wondering if anyone saw Brock Lesnar in the latest UFC event? I just happened to see a magazine in the drug store with a pic of him on the cover. I thought to myself, I remember him from the WWE (pro wrestling), and was curious to see what he had been up to in the past 4 years. He was one of those ruthless almost-unbeatable sons of bitches I've ever seen in the two years he wrestled. NCAA Div I national champ his senior year at the U. of Minn. then got into pro wrestling since it was about the only thing going at the time that he could make money at. He lasted just 2 years but damn, what a two year career it was! Then he tried out for the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL as an offensive lineman, and while the team was impressed with his size, speed and strength, he got cut because an offensive lineman takes years to learn the skills of blocking, and he'd only played football in high school. Now he's been in the UFC and as of magazine issue, only competed in one match, destroying his opponent in just 1:09. So, if you've seen him, is he for real? He did things in the WWE I've never seen before or since and yeah, he always had to pull his punches and kicks because it's partly faked, but with the UFC being full contact, he's free to do as he wants. And that is scary."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
jtval 0 #6 January 22, 2008 Brock will be fighting on 2 feb. Either that or 1 march. I forget which of the next two PPV events he will debut in but its against Frank Mir whom I am always saddened to say that his fights havent been the same since he was T-boned on his motorcycle. I think he puts up with a lot of pain in his fight to begin with. then he has to face his opponent. I wouldnt be surprised if Brock wins.My photos My Videos

BillyVance 34 #8 January 22, 2008 I wouldn't bet against Brock Lesnar. He was scary in the WWE and he couldn't even unleash his full power then. He's gonna destroy Mir. BillyVance 34 #10 January 22, 2008 Quote Quote I wouldn't bet against Brock Lesnar. .. He's gonna destroy Mir. Just MHO... Ahh the guy is all hype. Well, that is exactly what he is planning to disprove. Like I said, I won't bet against him. My lasting image of Brock Lesnar in the WWE is him doing a forward leap off the top turnbuckle, trying to complete a backflip to a headbutt of his opponent, who laid prone on the mat more than halfway across the ring. He almost completed the backflip, but he did land that headbutt, and gave himself a concussion in the process. He did some amazing things back then... I'd like to see what he's capable of now that he can go after his opponents full speed and full strength."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

Here's his Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brock_Lesnar A quote from Brock: "I've always had to fight for everything. I wasn't the best technician in amateur wrestling. But I was strong, had great conditioning, and a hard head. Nobody could break me. As long as I have that, I don't give a damn what anybody else thinks" But hey, you can tell him to his face that he's a fake. BillyVance 34 #15 January 22, 2008 Quote Shit, I'd tell him he's the biggest pussy I met. He'd just laugh in my face Of course he will. You're just a dipshit fan to him. I can't argue with his enthusiasm for wanting to go after the best fighters this early. If he truly believes he can handle them, let's see the fights. I note that his first UFC fight was last June. jtval 0 #16 January 23, 2008 It depends. Once every 6months is average if there are no injuries to postpone a fighters fight. 3 times a year is just a good year, 4 times is a lot. Usually training camps are 6 weeks. There may be a week-ish of rest before the fight and a few weeks to recover. One fight usually lasts 8-12 weeks for a fighter. So you can see that 2-3 fights a year is a busy year. 4 fights is nonstop. My photos My Videos

Ok, I'll be the first to admit that I don't know anything about Brock Lesnar at all. It's entirely possible that he's a very skilled MMA fighter. But do you really believe that his performance in the WWE has anything at all to do with how he'll fare in the UFC? I mean, you do realize that the WWE is choreographed, right? I know half as much about Brock as you do. I really don't think he'll walk passed Mir. In fact, I Want Mir to win. But Maybe I am mistaking but it seems that Mir is still on his road to recovery from his bike accident. The fact that he is back in the octagon is purely amazing but his first few fights were less then spectacular. My photos My Videos

The WWE is basically like a soap opera of sorts. You have to pull your punches and kicks, otherwise you couldn't perform 4 nights a week for a year or more. However, Brock is a 4 time NCAA all-american in wrestling and won the NCAA championship his last year at the U. of Minnesota. Add a 2nd place the year before. His next match should be a good one, it could tell us if he is for real, going up against a former UFC champ in only his 2nd UFC match ever. He's got the size, strength and speed, let's see if his skills match the other attributes. I'm going to find a place to watch the PPV Feb 2."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
Lindercles 0 #22 January 23, 2008 Well, at least he has some sort of experience with real fighting (though pure wrestlers don't tend to do well in MMA matches), and I'm as interested in finding out if he's worth a damn as you are. It just sounded like you were saying "he'll be good in the UFC because he was good in the WWE," which just doesn't make much sense.

He's got to want to fight and want to win in the UFC if he's going to have a chance. He does have a tough but honest upbringing, growing up on a farm in North Dakota and making do with nothing but rocks and farm equipment and the hard ground to do his own weight lifting regimens. Plus when he came out of high school, he wasn't regarded as a major wrestling prospect and actually went to a junior college, so he's had to fight for what he believed in, himself. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's tough as nails. I hope he backs me up. He IS cocky as hell too though so that could be a deterrent."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
