slotperfect 7 #1 January 13, 2008 There is a Trebuchet in my back yard! It was an assignment for his Honors Physics class in high school. He found the plans he wanted online, got a friend of his to help him go get the lumber, and enlisted the help of a neighbor who is a carpenter to build it. It is very simple - throws a softball about 30 meters - but VERY cool. He wants to pursue an education in Mechanical Engineering after graduation . . . no doubt this has fueled his passion. I want to build a big one! Arrive Safely John

Can the cam on that be exchanged and tweaked for better performance?I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
slotperfect 7 #3 January 13, 2008 The performance criteria only required it to hurl a softball a distance of three feet. 10x has got to be an A.Arrive Safely John
SkydiveStMarys 0 #4 January 14, 2008 Our high school requires that all 9th graders build one of those for science class. Its a lot of fun to build and can be frustrating at the same time. After we got the ball to go the required distance we didn't want to touch it for fear of it breaking. It worked and the kids got an A. BobbiA miracle is not defined by an event. BillyVance 34 #8 January 14, 2008 I built one out of Balsa for a class in high school, just a small one that could launch a marble all the way across the room. I had the best distance, by far. JohnMitchell 16 #14 January 14, 2008 Cool. My daughter built one of those as a soph in high school. She now has a full ride at an engineering college in Boston. Same hopes for your kid.
