enflyt 0 #1 January 9, 2008 So I'm about to run out on my 6month promotional special of $19.99/month for high speed internet from comcast. If i decide to keep it, it goes up to a whopping $54.99 plus taxes! There is Qwest, which is a little bit cheaper... but i'm afraid that it would also mean a whole lot slower too... I'm just trying to decide how much is too much for it! My old apartment I just 'shared' with my neighbors wireless connection... no such luck where i'm at now but i'm just curious.... how much do you pay? and when would it be too much? kelpdiver 2 #2 January 9, 2008 I'm paying a lot by the standards of the day - 65/month. 4 years ago, it was only slightly more expensive for more reliable service. Now it's a good bit more, but I need something better than Pacbell or Comcast for work needs. I'd probably have changed, but somehow I managed to get upgraded to 3/768 at the same rate, and I want that 768 bit. But to pay that rate for shared, unreliable cable service - not a chance. livendive 8 #3 January 9, 2008 It's built into my cable bill and I can't remember whether it's $30 or $40/month. I sure would like to ditch Charter cable...I pay them $133/month for internet & TV (including all the movie channels, HD channels, and HD DVR), and they have far and away the worst customer service I've dealt with. I routinely have to call them for one reason or another, and 4 out of 5 times I get someone who can't help me but talks to me forever only to transfer me to hold and then hang up on me. If I thought I had a chance of getting a similar product at a similar price, I'd switch to satellite & DSL in a heartbeat, but by the time you add everything up, it'd cost more and I'd get less (slower internet). Edit to add: I know that the DirectTV and Dish Network boxes need a phoneline to call home on occasion, e.g. to report pay-per-views, check for software updates, etc...does anyone know how the phone through internet works? Would it be possible to switch all my TV stuff to satellite and have it phone home through my cable internet? Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" livendive 8 #9 January 10, 2008 Quote My company pays for a verizon air card so there is no need to purchase it for myself.... How fast do those things work? I could have my company pay for one of them for me (deducting internet access from my taxes would be nice), but won't bother if they suck. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Muenkel 0 #10 January 10, 2008 $97.00/month for internet only. Where I live, my only choices are dial up or satellite. Did the dial up for quite a while and I just couldn't take it anymore. So, now it's satellite. I know satellite is not as fast as cable, but it's the only choice. It is a hell of a lot faster than dial up though. _________________________________________ Chris
ImGunnaJump 0 #11 January 10, 2008 $99/mo. for high speed and expanded basic with the evil empire known as Comcast...I hate them, but I have no other reasonable choice where I'm at."...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Thanatos340 1 #12 January 10, 2008 I started out with the Comcast "triple Play" Deal. Phone, Internet and Cable for $99 a month. Then I "HAD" to have HBO, Oh and then I cant Live without a DVR, And then I bought the HD Flat Panel so I needed the HD Package.. So now with all the Junk Fees they tack on.. I pay $178.50 a month. But how much is cable or Phone or Just Internet?? I haven’t quite figured that out. I will say that I LOVE the speed of cable Internet service. As for customer service.. We all know Comcast Sucks as any MONOPLOLY would. (They are the only option for cable in my area). I would look at Satellite but I am not legally allowed within 100 feet of a satellite receiver.
