Removeable Deploment System used by pro-swoopers.

You can remove PC, D-bag, slider after opening.

Piggyback containers. Back in the day we had belly mounted reserves and backpack mains. You felt like a parachute sandwich. Ughh! Amazing that anybody stuck with the sport.

Am only guessing, but what about electronic quipment - GPS for spottign, Netpune and Protack etc etc?

THey are quite useful so ive heard and offer more choice.

GPS and Neptune is not really about the rig, I'm looking for improvements on the rig

velcroless tuck tabs
cut-in laterals
hip rings
chest rings
deluxe back pads
pull-out deployment

I'm all about comfortable rigs.;)

if you want comfortable try a racer with NONE of your items...

I'll add wind tunnel training and design of RW suits.

Miniature cameras, small enough to mount it all on one helmet.

Trust me, my first freefall jumps with a video camera included a full-sized VCR strapped to my chest.

Miniature cameras vastly increased the amount of marketing disseminated by DZs. Those marketing materials (video tapes) were disseminated by the best spokes men: average people who had just made their first skydive.
All those thousands of enthusiastic junior jumpers told thousands of their friends, who came out to DZs to make a single tandem jump.
All those thousands of one-time tandem students forced dropzone bums to quit their day time jobs to focus on tandems.
Even more important, all those tandems forced DZOs to imcrease their lift capacity with turbines.

Re: tombuch

Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a winner; no more calls.

The original poster simply did not go 'far' enough back when asking.

The piggyback made almost everything later possible in major equipment changes; except for the ram-air. IMO the ram-air would have came about w/o the piggyback.

So now you can all say THANKS to a guy named Dan Abbott who designed it ( he is now about 84 and still with us ).

And if you don't believe me, go try on an old military surplus rig with belly mount; you will change your mind.

There are only four that where major in my opinion:

1. Three ring release system
2. Hand deploy pilot chute
3. Curved pin.
4. Cypres

You could call the development of tandem a fifth.

The other stuff is fluff.

Well if it wasn't for the free bag I wouldn't be here to disagree :D

As I said, that’s my opinion, and you are entitled to yours. You are aware that the free bag does not work as advertised?:)

Yes I am aware of that but for me it worked for a difrent reason, I had a PC in tow on my main and after I cutaway and deployed my reserve, the main came out, at the same time as the reserve. Any way I watched as my free bag caught up in the main as it came from the bag, at about the same time my riser covers released and the main disconected.

Back then a lot of people were still using round reserves and I had only just went on to a square reserve myself.

I think had the reserve deployment system not been a free bag, ie still a round I would have went in.

If I see you in Reno, I'll buy you a beer and admit the embarrassing reason as to why I had the mal in the first place.:$

Most malfunctions have an embarrassing reason behind them. At least most of mine have.:o:$

If I make it to Reno I will hold you to that beer.
