Watched nearly the same thing happen at Perris a few years back. Visiting Brit student cutaway because of turbulence and was saved by bottom skin inflation only, suffering a broken lower leg.

Several years ago, we had a student, on his first static line, chopped a perfectly good main. When the slider came down he heard "all this fluttering noise" (his words), thought he had a problem and went to his round reserve... the noise stopped!
