Wow, this is about the crazies thing I've seen yet

Has anyone seen the show Daredevils on TLC where the escape artist is shackled with arm and leg chains, put into a locked mailbag which is put into a specially designed cage that will remain upright and stable in freefall and dumped out of a C-123 from 18000ft. He has to get out of all that crap, hook up a chest reserve to his harness and pull. He actually pulled it off too. Damn, that tooks some huge brass balls.

Yes dude, I have seen that. The mailbag was suspended in the cage and all. Talk about extreme! It is on again tonight on TLC at 11:00 EST I believe. Also Joe Jennings will have some footage of the car jumps over Eloy at 10:00 EST as well. Thanks for posting that, I almost forgot about Joe's footage being on tonight.

My all time fave was the (late) stuntman Dar Robinson, jumping out of one plane without a rig on, and flying down to a Stearman biplane and climbing in. That was an AWESOME stunt. It's on TV now and again when they show legendary stuntmen. Dar died in a garden variety motorcycle accident. Go figure.

I was totally dissapointed when I watched it...they made it seem like it was all low and shit. They werent even low when he pulled and on top of that the bigges dissapointment was the fact that is was all a farse...He had a parachute rig on his back...he didnt even need the chest mount reserve..that was just there for the effects..to make it look bad ass. It was cool till I saw that.

I'm sure a lot of the whuffo's didn't even realize that he had a rig on his bag. Even with that though, the stunt was pretty amazing. No way in hell I'd lock myself in something falling down at 135 mph.

They did try and make it sound lower than it was. They said he was about 10 seconds to impact which would put him somewhere around 2000' at 135 mph, yet every camera guy and stabilizer for the cage was still hanging in there. Then they said 6 seconds. Yeah right. They said his freefall was 45 seconds long right? Well, if that was the case, from 18,000' that would put him around 5,000'-6,000'. I am doing some serious rough estimating here. Anyways, they always try and make it more dramatic than it really is. As for the extra parachute on his back, I didn't notice that one.

Yeah, it was a pilots rig. I noticed it this time. Still, if he was unable to get out of the mailbag and cage it is going to be of little help. I thought it was a pretty cool stunt anyhow.

I didn't see it, but if he went to 18k he is supposed to be on oxygen. Was that the case?

He had oxygen right up until they closed him up and then I think they pumped oxygen into the bag until it left the plane. Not sure about the oxygen when he was in the bag though.

From 18,000' you only need oxygen until you exit, after that you will be ok. Its only from the really high altitudes like 30,000+ that you need a full suit on with oxygen for freefall.
