kelpdiver 2 #3 April 25, 2006 custom bike gear isn't cheap either. There are cheaper suits out there - check Flitelite for their double zipper style. Myself, I got a simple RW suit off the 50% off rack at ActionAir, their home. As for visualization - it's hard. I think it's best to see it - boogies are great for showing a lot of of stuff. RopeJunkie 0 #5 April 25, 2006 If you need visualisation, their are a few manufacturers who have responded to this already, eg. Parasport and Tonysuits: http://www.parasportitalia.com http://www.tonysuits.com Both these manufacturers provide interactive visualisation tools on their websites, which let you see roughly what your chosen colours are gonna look like. Kinda handy even if you're buying a suit from somewhere else and just want to know how clown-like you're gonna look. :-) I've personally just ordered my first suit, an 'Aircare' suit from Thomas Sports (http://www.thomas-sports.com). I'm fortunate enough to jump at Bridlington DZ, which is right 'round the corner from Thomas Sports, so I was able to walk in and get measured. They showed me the fabrics and colours they could use too. I don't think their website advertises the jumpsuits actually, but I'm sure if you phone them up they'll be happy to talk to you about the different options. I know loads of people, especially students and new jumpers, use Aircare suits in the UK. If you want something a bit more funky then you might want to check out Original Lizard (http://www.original-lizard.com). The bloke who does the Original Lizard kit was one of my AFF instructors, and his kit is quality. I know a few people who are very pleased with their freefly suits from Original Lizard. Don't ask my advice on colour schemes. I just ordered flourescent yellow grips. Hey, there's nowt wrong with being seen! Also I feel it's my duty to combat a growing trend in people who think they're ninjas and insist on wearing all black kit. :-) G. :-)
tdog 0 #6 April 25, 2006 I have learned that you get what you pay for... I have a http://www.symbiosis.suits.btinternet.co.uk/ symbiosis suit... I imported it from the UK to the US... I really, really, really like it... I have put about 25+ hours in the tunnel, and 300 sky jumps on it in one year, and it has yet to show any wear except on one bootie due to me, not the suit... I did have to replace the zipper - because when I coach in the tunnel I spend a lot of time on the net, which tears apart the zippers... The thicker plasticy knobby zippers are better for that... The thin, small toothed metal ones don't last. You get what you pay for... For an example, my friend had a poor quality zipper on his suit too, from an unnamed company. He and I went to ZHills for a AFF instruction rating class. On one eval dive his suit's zipper tore open... He went down the road to Tony Suits down the street. Tony looked at his suit and said, "You can't fly in a tunnel with a zipper like this"... Note - my friend did not even mention that he flies in a tunnel, but Tony knew how and why the damage occurred... So, I admire the guys who build the suits... When it is time for you to buy a good suit, you won't regret it. I love my symbi suit!
bwilling 0 #7 April 25, 2006 One of the reasons that custom jumpsuits are so expensive, is that they're custom. Every suit is a one off design and size, and like it or not, that drives production costs through the roof! You might consider something like this suit... I don't know anything about them firsthand, but they come from a reputable dealer that's been in the skydiving industry for a very long time, so I expect that they're a decent product at least, and considerably less expensive than a custom suit... I feel your pain though, it's hard to find used gear for guys our size! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got." pilotdave 0 #8 April 25, 2006 If you want one of the major brands, try to find a local dealer (ask around at your dropzone). They'll have material samples and be able to measure you and all that. Trying to choose colors and all that over the internet is very difficult. Also, just take a close look at jumpsuits you see around the dropzone. That'll give you a better idea of what the options are as far as colors and patterns. Dave
hobbes4star 0 #9 April 25, 2006 I got my first suit used for 50 dollars it lasted me 200 jumps before i hit the step on exit and tore the ass out of it. If that had not happened I would probably still be using it. if fun were easy it wouldn't be worth having, right?

If you want the very best, I recommend Ouragan Suits. You will have to pay for that top quality, but I've seen no other suit that comes close in terms of original design or build quality.
