schleckschling 0 #1 April 28, 2006 Hi, this week I bought a Bonehead Mindwarp helmet. On the original photo http://www.boneheadcomposites.com/mindwarp.htm, the chin strap is mounted through the holes in the shell. So there's no possibility for lines to be caught between the shell and the chin strap. When I received my helmet, I recognized that my chin strap is mounted on the instide of the shell. Because of that, I'm afraid of lines beeing caught... What do you think...is this a high risk?? Do I have to modify the mount for the chin strap??? stellettorider 0 #2 April 28, 2006 There are probably thousands of Bonehead Mindwarp helmets being jumped. Why would your helmet be more susceptible to line snags than any others. Ben
ripcord4 0 #3 April 28, 2006 Stay stable at pull time and that will keep your head out of the lines. Don't worry about it. I have a Guner with the strap fastened inside the shell and it has never come close to snagging a line. With your profile you have more important things to obsess about! GravityGirl 0 #4 April 28, 2006 I see no snag factors there. The Mindwarp is forever changing. Minor adjustments here and there. I have several in my shop with slight differences such as the chin strap attachment. I have had no customer complaints or known issues with any versions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! schleckschling 0 #5 April 28, 2006 I'm not sure if all mindwarps have the chin strap mounted on the inside of the shell. It could also be a special version for other sport activities... I'm wondering why the helmet on the Bonehead website is published with the better chin strap mount... Sorry for my english, I'm from Germany...hope it's unterstandable
JeepDiver 0 #6 April 28, 2006 My mindwarp is a newer model with the chin strap mounted on the inside. I worry about the plane crashing on takeoff, have you ever considered that before?
NWFlyer 2 #7 April 28, 2006 Your English is just fine. Better than most of the native English speakers on this site. Quotewith the better chin strap mount... What I don't think anyone is following is why you believe the chin strap shown on the site to be "better"? You've heard from a very experienced gear dealer that the current configuration is safe, and well-liked by many customers. However, the bottom line is, if you don't like what you've received, send it back for a refund. Skydiving companies are often not the most tech-savvy when it comes to keeping web sites up to date. That may explain why the site photo doesn't match what you receive."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
pilotdave 0 #8 April 28, 2006 I'm just guessing the concern is in reference to this post: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2184156 I'm sure it's possible to come up with a scenario where something could snag on the edge of a helmet, but I doubt there are any recorded incidents of a broken neck due to a helmet snag because of how the chin strap is attached. Not something I'd worry about, but who knows. Dave
TimDave 0 #9 April 29, 2006 I have 90% of my jumps with boneheads with various chin strap/cup configurations and am completely confident with the safety of the helmets. Even had some violent spinning mals test jumping canopies and no issues. If you are not comfortable with it send it back. Otherwise keep asking more until you are satisfied that there is limited risk of snagging.
