SkydiveStMarys 0 #1 November 28, 2007 I go thru this every year. My parents are elderly. They have everything they could possibly use or want. I usually send my parents a nice flower arrangement for the major holidays and some really good chocolates too (Mom likes the flowers, dad loves the chocolate). But I feel like I want to change the gift this year, but to what I have no clue. I guess if I don't find anything better it will be flowers and chocolates YET again. Any ideas?? Jewels 0 #5 November 28, 2007 I'm not sure how "elderly" your parents are, or how mobile they might be, but as my mother is getting older she's starting to appreciate more things like tickets to the theater (nothing to clean or store!), or gift certificates to a special restaurant. If you can make an event or activity that some of their friends can be a part of (even just a lunch out), that's usually fun. A Barnes & Noble gift card always goes over well, too, so she can buy books or a book on tape. I know none of those things sound terribly exciting, but they're things *my* mother has enjoyed in the past. Oh--and I get her things that she could use but would never get on her own, like an upgrade (i.e., up to date!) cell phone--not for extra bells and whistles, but just to keep her technology current.TPM Sister #

mamajumps 0 #7 November 28, 2007 Findgift.com is a neat website. You can break down what kind of gifts you are looking for by gender, age and relationship to you. I have found some neat things on there.
JENNR8R 0 #8 November 28, 2007 That's hard... I always got my Dad a variety basket of cheeses since he loved cheese. It was always different every year, and he looked forward to it. katecooper 0 #10 November 28, 2007 Digital photo frame preloaded with a ton of pictures of you and your family (if applicable) doing cool and fun things. Skydiving and sports but also face shots and smiles. We did that for gifts last year for our parents and it was a great hit. The tech savvy parental unit immediately put her own photos on and we regularly change out pictures on the non-tech savvy parent units. We got good frames from Amazon (Phillips). wmw999 2,545 #11 November 28, 2007 Another possibility if they're into experiences is a small plane ride over where they live. The kind with a nice big window, so that they can see their house, their neighbor's house, etc. And it's something new to talk about. chaoskitty 0 #12 November 28, 2007 We got my grandmother a digital photo frame for her birthday and she loves it. I also send her stuff from Harry and David. They have some really cute holiday gifts with fruit, nuts, cookies, popcorn, coffee, etc. Lots to choose from. She likes it because she can enjoy it herself and she has some treats to offer guests. skymama 37 #14 November 28, 2007 The digital photo frame we got my Mom last year went over so well that she got one for my Grandma this year. If you have siblings, have them e-mail pictures of them to you too. Also, what about treating them to a nice evening out? SkydiveStMarys 0 #18 November 28, 2007 The whole digital frame idea is a great one! I have seen them but not really looked into them. Do you just upload the pics, send the gift and they just "turn it on"? They have no idea about technology and they aren't PC savvy in the least. BobbiA miracle is not defined by an event.
