TrophyHusband 0 #2 November 26, 2007 i love getting them. i use them to buys things that i want, but might cost too much or be a little too frivalous to spend my own money on. i also buy them because most of he people i buy gifts for live far away and they are easy to mail. I agree. They seem to be perfect for that one gift you always wanted and thought about but never actually wanted to spend your own money on. It's a great way of doing away with procrastination. chinagirl 0 #4 November 26, 2007 Just make sure you buy the ones that don't have a user's fee. There are many out there that charge ridiculous fees and you end up short changing the person receiving the gift card. ~Built for Abuse www.skydivethefarm.com
Bolas 5 #5 November 26, 2007 Ahh... Taking something universally useful like cash and limiting it and adding an expiration date too. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
skypapa 0 #6 November 26, 2007 Quote Ahh... Taking something universally useful like cash and limiting it and adding an expiration date too. So you think it is more appropriate just to give cash? I always thought that was considered even more thoughtless than a gift certificate.
CSpenceFLY 1 #7 November 26, 2007 Just make sure they can actually use it somewhere close to where they live. Nothing sucks more then having to travel 6 or 8 hrs to use a certificate that someone gave you.
micduran 0 #8 November 26, 2007 Make sure they are for a store that the recipient will actually visit. Unused gift cards is a way for retailers to make BIG $$$$Be patient with the faults of others; they have to be patient with yours.

monkycndo 0 #10 November 26, 2007 I like giving gift cards. I try to give it for something the receiver is interested in. Or to something they would like but not normally buy for them self. But I never use a middleman/broker that charges a whole bunch of extra fees or has expiration dates. Go right to the retailer.50 donations so far. Give it a try. Or even worse when you attempt to redeem the certificate, but you are told that the DZ doesnt except the certificate from a specific "vendor". The term for that "vendor" is unethical business. Gift certificates are a great idea, just careful where you buy them.7 ounce wonders, music and dogs that are not into beer

Personally I try to give thoughtful gifts that are something the person can actually use and is a good value for my money spent. Sometimes that is a gift certificate, but its always for a store that is local for the recipients, not for a store that is hours and hours away that also tacks on all sorts of fees and known nationally for lying to its customers.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." DontPanic 0 #24 November 26, 2007 Probably a third or more of the gift certificates I get expire before I use them. I'm especially bad about the one's for restaurants. Even if I go to the place, I'll have forgotten that I had a gift certificate until I get there.
