Muenkel 0 #11 November 25, 2007 I live in Ski Country. Not as good as the West (U.S.) or parts of Europe, but certainly good enough. I've skied all my life. It's the only time I enjoy snow...well that and snowmobiling. Can't ski for now though.Hope you have a great time with great conditions. _________________________________________ Chris
shropshire 0 #12 November 25, 2007 A few years ago, I did some work with a company out of Philly and during a couple of week stint went to the Poconos for the day and had a right blast with some mates... Although we did get told off for being on a Black Run (Diamond?) with rentals skiis on - WTF? (.)Y(.) ryoder 1,590 #13 November 25, 2007 Quote Although we did get told off for being on a Black Run (Diamond?) with rentals skiis on - WTF? Well, there is a higher probability of a person on rental skis being a beginner, and there is a higher probability of finding rocks on the steeper slopes, so the combination of those two means a greater likelihood of breaking the skis."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. Muenkel 0 #15 November 25, 2007 I agree with Ryoder, but there are exceptions. Many times an experienced skiier has to rent, which is why most resorts have high performance skiis for rent. I have witnessed many times, people on the black trails who should not even be off the green ones. I don't know what they're trying to prove, but it's insane. I guess it's like skydivers who think they're ready to swoop or downsize when they have 100 jumps. _________________________________________ Chris
shropshire 0 #16 November 25, 2007 It didn't bother us too much, we'd already done the run (we were at the bottom and getting on the lift). It just wouldn't happen in Europe... That's what rental insurance is for. (.)Y(.) Chivalry is not dead; it only sleeps for want of work to do. - Jerome K Jerome

Might give boarding a go. but i don't expect to be doing much skiing, i have jumping to do after i leave CO and don't want anything broken If you do try boarding, then wristguards are a must! If you don't believe me, then ask SkyMama. Also, wear a helmet. The first time I tried boarding, I had a headache for 3 days from the heel-side falls. (That was before I started wearing a helmet). That helmet has saved my brain from a lot of high-speed equipment dispersals. The impact of the helmet hitting hardpack sounds like a gun going off to the ears, but it beats the hell out of having a splitting headache for the rest of the day, and the next two."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. Muenkel 0 #20 November 25, 2007 Something tells me the lad is a tad inexperienced. If you can ski the trail, it does not matter to the resort if you're using their equipment. They make a lot of money on the rentals. As for safety, like I said, if you can ski the trail; then what's the big deal? _________________________________________ Chris

Muenkel 0 #22 November 25, 2007 Plus, it was the Poconos. Not known as the best ski area, but it can be fun for a day out. People in that area who want a serious ski vacation generally head to New England. _________________________________________ Chris
Muenkel 0 #23 November 25, 2007 Squeak matey, definitely listen to ryoder in regard to boarding. Boarding can be a shitload of fun, but the first day on a board is very challenging and you can really bang yourself up. I'm not saying it's deadly. I'm just saying that if you're planning a skydiving trip afterwards, be very careful with the boarding. Have fun. _________________________________________ Chris
