leather fake bullet proof vests (aka people are weird)

Recommended Posts

I'm watching the speed channel and some random show about sport bikes and there's a lot of people on TV wearing fake armor carriers that are made out of leather.

At a loss as to what I'm talking about? Go here: http://www.legendaryusa.com/Tactical_Street_Bulletproof_Style_Leather_Motorcycle_Vest_s/91.htm

Then go here: http://www.gtdist.com/SearchResults.aspx?SubCat=CON&Category=ARM

Why only concealable armor? Why not have fake class IV plate carriers? Why would someone want to show off concealable armor outside of their clothing in the first place? Defeats the point doesn't it?

G'morning Dave -

Weird - looks almost like an unpadded version of the impact vest they make the rodeo cowboys wear since Lane Frost got killed...

Simple. Everything is about image nowadays.

What an ironic post from a bullshit advertising username.

What exactly is my username "skypapa" advertising? I assume you are referring to my sig line? If so, there is no reason to get so upset.

unless you're working for them

History has shown that 99.99995% of the time here on DZ.com those kinds of "users" are employed of the company. Another unethical advertising attempt.

Anyways, I still think the fake carriers are really stupid looking. Real carriers are uncomfortable to wear too, but that's another story.

Agreed - *especially in leather*

You buy any stock in CoolMax yet? ;)

I used to have a Second Chance IIa (picked it up second-hand, cheap (and unshot)). Some of the t-shirt style carriers look interesting, but then you've gotta worry about getting your panel overlaps right and all that...not worth it in the long run, IMO.

Yeah, coolmax is nice, but I prefer 5.11 "underarmour" style shirts. Better compression which is more comfortable during a 12+ hour day.

I don't like the t-shirt style carriers for the reasons you listed AND I loose the elastic straps that are really handy to have (think backup weapons).

Does 5.11 make one with the 'ridges' like the CoolMax under-armor shirts? Not a good description but I'm sure you know what I mean.

I understand your point about the BUG, too... hadn't thought of that, it's a good point!

When I first started riding about 8 years ago, I thought I would get a job working a motorcycle dealership. I figured yeah, retail sucks, but these customers are motorcycle riders, they have to be cool! It turns out, that only about 1 in 10 motorcycle riders are actually "cool," and by cool I mean that they are not ego maniacs, perverts, assholes, really rich guys in weekend costumes, gangster wanabees, kids with rich fathers, or anyone else that any semmingly normal person would despise.

I've worked at dealerships for years, and just when you think you've seen it all.......

Maybe its me, or maybe its New Jersey, or maybe I'm just jaded, but shit like fake bullet proof motorcycle vests, and all the crap that comes with it, are the reason why I now only ride with one other person.

I feel better now. Thank you.

Sounds like another very familiar sport.

Well the show I saw them on was one of those early morning TV shows on speed. This one was about sport bike clubs in and around LA, California. Not surprising from the stereotypes those groups of riders and that location in the country has.:P

I'm not a big fan of MCs anyways, I simply like to ride. I have made many rides simply by myself, or like you, with only one other person. I have ridden with a couple of riding groups in my area only to be reasonably annoyed.

I need one of those wanna-be vests, with a pair of chaps and a leather cod piece, then I could complete the complete "I'm a wannabe tool" look.
