voidlizard 0 #1 May 17, 2006 Hello, Some time ago I have noticed that my Cobalt Comp 105 became to snivel too long. It inflates three central sections and when hesitate to inflate the rest of them. It is not so funny, because it's very unstable when it snivel, and even a little harness skew may cause it to turn (and spin) So now I have one low-opening and one cutaway (because of spin mal) probably because of this. I have several ideas why it has started to happen. First - I've lost some weight and now wingloading is something about may be 1.7 instead of 1.8 wich I have been told that it's a recommended minimal WL for this canopy. Second - my PC has more than 500 openings, may be it's time to replace it. So I will replace the PC anyway, but will it fix the situation and wich PC should I get? The same size, or lesser one (as Atair recommends?) But Atair recommends small pc for softer openings, but it seems this is not what I need in this situation. Any ideas? PS. It opens better when I pull in tracking, but it's not possible to open in track every time.
rwieder 0 #2 May 17, 2006 Get yourself a 24" Jim Cazar collapsable PC. 500 jumps is a lot for a PC of any kind. I know you are concerned about slow openings with a smaller PC, but i've been down this same road with an Atair canopy. Remember, i'm not an instructor, expert canopy pilot or nothing like that, but i do have up close and personal experience with this same situation, the 24" PC does work. Good Luck. darkwing 5 #3 May 17, 2006 I find it difficult to believe that this is pilot chute related. The snivel is too far into the opening sequence. What kind of suspension lines does this canopy have? You might check with the mfr and consider a smaller slider, or putting a hole in the existing slider. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
voidlizard 0 #4 May 17, 2006 Quote I find it difficult to believe that this is pilot chute related. May be the PC somehow decreases freefall speed? The canopy has microline lines and about 250 jumps on it.
twnsnd 1 #5 May 17, 2006 Leave the nose out. Put only one roll in the tail. Leave the front edge of the slider flush with the nose. Maybe a slammer would be refreshing at this point? riggerrob 643 #6 May 17, 2006 Ask your local rigger to inspect your lines. Sometimes 500 pound, Spectra lines can shrink "out of trim" in as little as 300 jumps. If you need a trim chart, ask Atair.

I am quite sure that your pilot chute has nothing to do with the problem you describe. Pilot chutes have nothing to do with the inflation time. Pilot chutes seldom cause any problems at all unless the lines are stowed so insecurely that it causes issues related to the canopy coming out of the bag.
