WatchYourStep 0 #1 November 8, 2007 Well I've been wanting to get a Mac but I hope I don't need to yet. My computer flashed the BSOD last night. The error it states is UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. I've tried to start it in Safe Mode and got the BSOD again. I tried to start it in Last Known Working Configuration and got the BSOD again. Any ideas or is my stuff gone? I've been meaning to make a back up but haven't in a while "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. billvon 3,070 #2 November 8, 2007 Your hard drive is likely fried. Try booting from a known-good hard drive; see if that fixes the problem. You might be able to borrow someone's for the test. A lot of people have old hard drives they don't use any more.

WatchYourStep 0 #4 November 8, 2007 Thanks. Do you have any idea if that will wipe the drive? I'm trying to do this without losing files if at all possible. Thanks again "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out." Thanks again One option is to put another hard drive in it and install windows. Then you can put your old drive in as a secondary drive and hopefully access the data on it if it isn't completely fried.Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Or if you have access to another computer, just pull the drive and drop it into an outboard box that you can pick up pretty cheap these days - maybe a lot cheaper than trying to piece together the data - depending on how important it is to you - "The helicopter approaches closer than any other to fulfillment of mankind's ancient dreams of a magic carpet" - Igor Sikorsky

You can remove the hard drive and hold it in your hand, while turning it back and forth several times quickly. The idea is to rotate the case of the drive in the same plane as that of the discs. Then reinstall the drive. If this is the problem, it should work after that. I've had this happen a few times in the past. Good Luck!Arizona only has two seasons, Hot and HOTTER!
