Preferred altitud for Hop & Pops

I think that everyone should try a very low hop & pop at some point in their skydiving careers.

Most of the people at the drop zone I did, this past weekend thought I was crazy.

I have a "B" license & the lowest hop&pop I've done was from 3,500. It was extremely weird the first time around cause I knew we weren't high enough

I've jumped from "2k" before, but I prefer 3.5+k so I have some time to get close to terminal before I pull. Loaded ellipticals can get *funny* with subterminal openings sometimes.

lowest you will see me intentionaly exit an aircraft and pull my main is around 2500 because it takes y main so long to open... i'd dump my reserve at 1k though... i like about 4k though for a "hop n pop" just to get a litle freefall to play with... even though a tru hnp is pull out he door almost..

My preferred altitude is 4-5K... my lowest was 2k (if I stood on top of the plane, on my tippy toes, but I did not want to do that because of all the moisture right around tail level, read just under a cloud)... this of cours does not count military jumps, which are lower (~1K or below).

2500 min, but I'd like 3500. I've been doing a lot of hop-n-pops lately for financial reasons, and I'm trying to get my swoop dialed in, and twice last weekend I had to shake my risers to get the canopy out of the cigar roll. I've started rolling the tail a little less

we regularly make h-n-p's from 2-3k when its cloudy out. one thing to remember when getting near the 2k level is your AAD. a subterminal opening can take longer than normal openings and you dont want to end up with a 2 out senario

actually I prefer 13,500 and Ill do a hop and pop form 3k and below!

for the price of a HNP out here you may as well get you freefall too!

theres NO rush to catrch the next plane so no matter waht you do you can catch the next load

There is a difference between preferred and what I will get out at. 2k is fine with me but 4k is preferred...

So I chose 4K... I can get a better set up for landing.

Lately all I do it hop n pops. It's bargain basement skydiving and I can work on my landings. I'm a hopnpop princess.

I did one from 2K once. I thought: "This is what a BASE jump must feel like." The canopy took a bit longer to open which made me nervous.

2.5K is comfortable.
just to practice the "out the door" opening, i like cross-countries. that way there's no unnecessary risk, but you still get the quick pull practice.

2K! I like being able to spot down to the foot, and it's fun to be that low with essentially zero vertical velocity. Besides, a 2K exit gives you as much time to deal with problems as 3K does in freefall.

3.5K is nice and comfortable. 2.5K is fine.... 2K if that's all you can get and SEB is calling you a girl if you don't jump

3500 preferred but I have exited at 2k before...i just dont like to exit that low and I have to pack for low openings as my usual sub-terminal openings are waaaaaay to long for a comfortable 2k exit

ive done a 2500' jump before because of clouds on a stiletto never doin that again i dumped right off the step adn passed 2 people who waited to pull while my canopy was still sniveling scary stuff but fun talk about an adrenaline rush

I did a wingsuit hop n pop from 3k once ... we circled for a while at altitude and the pilot finally said we're takin it back down ... and since I didn't want to land, a bunch of us asked the pilot to let us out from the cloudbase, 3k. I only flew to 2k and deployed from under the wingsuit. After that I did a few 5k wingsuit jumps just for shits and giggles. Normally, I prefer the 5k hop, it gives me more time to have fun with my canopy! That's really the reason why I do those low jumps!

Trailer 11/12 was the best. Thanks for the memories ... you guys rocked!

If I do a hop and pop I prefer 4 - 5K so I can take a few seconds to get a decent opening (like what AggieDave said) and have plenty time to set up over the pond... I've done them from 2K when that was all the altitude that we could get though and they were fine.

BTW, I don't think anyone thought you were crazy for jumping out low, it's just that you paid to go to 7K, spend some more time up there when you're paying for it? Now a gator dive is a whole different story....

At student level, I was supposed to do my first clear and pull (hop and pop) at 3500. Thank goodness they took me to 6000 because I would have bounced. That is when I had a hard pull, horseshoe malfunction and sniveling reserve. I would do a low (3500) clear and pull, now, but I do not recommend it for students.

I'll get out at 2.5k without hesitating (even if it might technically be lower than the limits of my license ). 4k is better because then you can do CRW with the other guys on the load.

2k is fine, but i'd rather have enough altitude (3.5-4k) to launch an exit then track off before pitching..not really a H&P but its ALOT more fun...
