murrays 0 #52 October 26, 2007 QuoteSo . . . who will the BoSox sit out in game 3 because there is no DH in the National League park? Three possibilities thrown out there in a poll on Fox last night were Ortiz, Youkilis, and Lowell. You could pull Youkilis and let Papi play 1st, but Youkilis is batting over .400 in the post season. You could pull Lowell and let Youkilis play third, but he has been a steady post season contributor as well. You could bench Papi, but not only is he a monster with the bat (especially delivering clutch hits in pressue situations), but he has an eagle eye and draws a lot of walks - read: he is a frequent base runner for Mannylocks to move around. Thoughts? I wouldn't play Papi...Youkilis is hot with the bat right now and I don't think you should give up the defense that Lowell and Youkilis provide.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

They did everything right, Francona made great moves and they deserve to be World Champions.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I was at Bushwaller's Irish Bar in Frederick, MD when they won the World Series in 2004. And I was there tonight when they won it in 2007 (after driving home from the PA renaissance faire). Shit, I DID NOT think the Sox would sweep the Rockies. I thought it would go at least until game 5 & probably 6! well shit: this means we won't get to see another Papelbon dance! Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
 SpeedRacer 1 #65 October 29, 2007 I think the trick is that the Red Sox stayed SCRAPPY! They were not the underdogs, but they acted as if they were. They greedily grabbed any base they could, so that they could have a man on 3rd just in case if anyone could POSSIBLY hit a double. That was the key. They were NOT the underdog, but, because they knew more than anyone else how a series can turn on a dime (because they'd done it) they acted as though every game needed DESPERATELY to be won, by every base-grab necessary. Oh, and because of this attitude, we ALL get a free taco!So that is my assessment: the Red Sox won because they STAYED HUNGRY! It's like that second Rocky movie. Winning 22 out of 23 games to make it into the World Series is no small fete. They should be very proud of themselves. The truth is, they were no match for the Sox this year. I venture to say we witnessed the 'perfect team'. The pitching, hitting and fielding were all there. Some mistakes were made, but so few relatively speaking; and none that counted. Does anyone else think Ellsbury could cover the entire outfield himself? _________________________________________ Chris
 Prev 1 2 3 Next Page 3 of 3 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
