Dont set your expectations too high. Satellite Internet service still kinda sucks (better than Dial up.. But not much.).

We have it at the DZ and it is usually slower than dialup would have been. I spent about 10 minutes trying to log-on to DZ,com at the DZ this past weekend and finally gave up because it was taking atleast a full minute for each page to load.[:/]

Don't tell me that![:/] The only choices I have where I live are dial up or satellite. My brother who lives in the area has satellite and he said it was quite satisfied...and he's an IT guy.

Well, compared to dial-up it could be faster. I wouldn't be expecting lightening speed with satellite. The fastest I've used was cable modem...wait, I take that back. A friend had a dedicated T1 line and it seemed that the internet pages loaded even before you finished asking for them.

One of these days, fiber to the home will be generally available and then you will see speed...lots and lots of it.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

there is a physical distance involved with the transmission and receipt of the signal...most are satellite down, dial up back up to the bird.
IP accelerators (caching engines) help...some...
but typical home satellite:

speeds up to 700 Kbps, with typical speeds of about 500 Kbps to 600 Kbps during peak times. Upload speeds, which are capable of reaching 128 Kbps, are typically 70 Kbps to 80 Kbps during peak hours.

that AIN'T broadband![:/]

Currently I have 26.4kbps.:S It may not be broadband, which once again is not available in my area; but it will be a huge improvement. I also subscribed to one of the more powerful plans.
