Be very interesting to see how much revenue the town loses due to their actions.

how about the airport in ROME?????

No alcohol allowed there either.

I don't think they would welcome skydiving back anyway, alcohol or not. We had some good times in the old days, but no more...

Spence, I see this as a grand op for you to roam where your kids are welcome. They will lose business, and money but you will lose nothing but a landing zone. Dublin is not the event, its you and your organization and your beliefs of what skydiving should be...THATS the event. Your followers are there for you, not for that town.

Skydiving is not kid friendly... they should have known that, they should have known the possibility of deaths. They choose to promote it as a family event but never once have you ever stated such. They are well aware that alcholol was not a cause of the accidents. Its there scapegoat.

Dont stress it... you have so much support out there in this community. Fuck them, take Julie on a vacation even and visit all the dz's who still stick to your way of thought.

I haven't been to Statesboro, but it's one place that hasn't been burned. I understand that the co-owners who ran the DZ there just couldn't commit the time needed to keep it running. I can't imagine the airport there would turn down a chance to host a major event like this, just as long as they have jet fuel ready on site.

Chris, I don't even think you should consider having the event in Dublin anymore. People didn't go to the boogie because it was in the town of Dublin, they went because they knew it was going to be a laid-back good time amongst friends at a boogie given by one of us. I think most of us will follow you anywhere.

I can't even imagine what a financial commitment it must be. Surely there is a dz out there who will parter with you by providing the facilites while you still handle most of the organization?

All I request is that it is within 7 hours driving distance of Orlando and I'll do my best to be there. :P

The Redneck Games is a dry event? That's either blasphemy or bullshit. :|

Wasted a bunch of time looking at the video and photos.

At 1:11 left on the video, two chicks are holding a couple cans of Bud Light.

In photos of the '06 event, photo 80, 99 and 116 clearly shows beer cans.

In photos of the '07 event, photo 7 and 8 show participants with beer cans.

And the handle of the torch is a stack of cans of Bud.

If you want to cause grief to a bunch of the Red Neck people like the council is doing to you, show these images to the council proving this approved event for the last several years has not been dry, as documented by their own website. And they call these games a family friendly event.

I'll follow you of course anywhere spence -- I'm sad that my first year at dublin was my last, but I hope to make it to another roaming dz boogie one of these days :)

Andrea's right, this event wasn't about the town, but about the people and atmosphere. Take it where you will and we'll follow with as much support as this community can muster.

By the way, after organizing my own, much smaller event at Raeford this year, I now have boundless respect for you and what you must go through to make the St. Patrick's Day boogie happen. Thanks for being so dedicated and hard working, Chris.

dumb asses to say the least.

while I'm sure it isn't financially worth the effort, I wonder whether this is even legal...is it illegal to consume any alcohol in their county?
let the necks have the county and take the event somewhere else. surprisingly enough there are places out there that have BARS on airport property. not everyone is so narrow minded.

dumb asses.>:(

reply from the editor...note the concern...:P

Just responded to another message from one of your buddies who also
erroneously assumed that the Redneck Games are in Dublin. They are in EAST
Dublin, a separate municipality, and are sponsored by the East Dublin
Lions Club on city property, not county property.

As for your other questions, I suggest you contact County Administrator
Bryan Rogers to answer them. City and county government aren't my beats.

I say F them, F them right in the eye!!!!!

I agree with Lisamarie as well as Skymama and others. It wasn't the town that brought us, it was the event. That town will realize.

Maybe a collection for the animals could still be taken up somehow.

Does Savannah have an airport outside the city, like a small municipal one? I'm pretty sure they allow alcohol that weekend.

You see how much support you have from this community. It is about the friends and the skydiving, not the location.

I guess now you can start working on that mountain boogie. ;)

But not before you get the Roaming RV roamable again. :S

This is not a case of skydivers that got out of control. This is a case of the rules changing in the middle of the game.

If I'm reading this right - the rules didn't change, they're just now deciding to enforce them? I'm not sure I buy the "...we didn't know there was alcohol involved before the accident..." They probably knew but ignored it, but no longer could when the accident happened.

I had this response this morning, and my reply is follows:
------------------------------------------------------------

Am passing your letter along to our editor in chief for consideration for
publication, but let me clear up one misconception on your part: the
Redneck Games take place in EAST Dublin, which is a separate municipality
from Dublin, and they are sponsored by the East Dublin Lions Club on city
property, not county property. And for the record, many of us, me
included, think they're an embarrassment.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I appreciate your candor, but moreso the fact that you aren't taking my note personally. I should point out, however, given the facts you have clarified, that from where I am sitting, your local government still gives the appearance of selective and arbitrary statutory enforcement.

The laws governing your area should by all means convey the standards desired by the community; at the same time, they should also appear fair and reasonable.

If your officials do not want the skydiving event to happen, they have the right to simply state that, but the reasons should be expressed openly to the community, and not under the guise of protecting citizens from supposed moral corruption.

Regards,
John Hall

Why is the Dublin Boogie a "County Sponsored Event" anyway?

We dont need no stinkin "County Sponsorship".

Dublin's St. Patrick's Festival is the county-sponsored event and the skydiving was associated with that.
My reality and yours are quite different.

fuck them them fucking fucks! dublin has no decent places to eat, and they charged too much for the hotel rooms. We put up with that because it was a great boogie. Their loss. Your boogie was the most excitement those chickenfuckers saw all year. Chris, thanks for all the hard work you put into the gig.
