floridadiver81 0 #1 September 19, 2007 ok so this has been going on for over a week now. I still have three of my 4 wisdom teeth. My bottom right was removed during boot camp...but they left the other three. Now..its to the point that i literally cannot sleep at night. THe amount of sleep i have been getting has been diminishing over the last week. It was about an hour and a half last night. I was pacing up and down the street till about 3 am(seems to be the only way for the pain to go away...but it comes immediately back once i stop or lay down). finally got to sleep and the pain woke me up again at about 4:45 am. I spoke to the Veterns Office about finishing my dental work and they said it will be about a week before i can even get an exam..then another 4 week to 2 months before i can actually get into surgery. I have been popping advil liquid gels like candy...while they work during the day..for some reason they just wont work when i lay down...and its enough to make me stay awake. Does anyone know what medicine really works on this type of pain that will help me sleep? The pain is coming from the remaining wisdom teeth puching in more and forcing my other teeth together. Sometimes its so bad that it causes headaches on top of it all. So does anyone know of anything i can take or do to alleviate the pain until i can get into surgery??? I would be eternally grateful!!!"Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! floridadiver81 0 #3 September 19, 2007 If liquor wasnt so expensive that would be feasible. Im not really a beer person...and jack works...but that would be like 30 bucks a night..at least!"Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! gonzalesna 0 #5 September 19, 2007 Might I suggest NyQuil? The only medicine that's orange, red, green and purple that tastes like orange, red, green, and purple. No fruity flavors, just tastes like medicine. Makes for a great holiday eggnog if you're prone to colds during the winter.Edit to add: You also may wanna stretch before putting so much stress on your jaw next time. Muenkel 0 #8 September 19, 2007 I'm not sure exactly what is causing your pain, but you do mention the pressure on your other teeth. The first thought that came to me was to pick up the mouth trays they use for TMJ. You can get them from the drug store. I hope this suggestion may be useful for you. Teeth pain is brutal. BTW, I don't understand why they're not treating this as a dental emergency. _________________________________________ Chris
kenz 0 #9 September 19, 2007 quite honestly i think alcohol is the worst thing for that - i had horrible problems with my wisdom teeth - i took a crap ton of ibuprofen - that worked for pain - percocet made me sick as a dog but i slept really well with it - i would take maybe four advil at a time - if its that bad - tell them its an emergency - if they still don't take you - go to the ER - they'll at least give you something to knock the edge off"life does throw curveballs sometimes but it doesn't mean we shouldn't still swing for the homerun" ~ me

Well the problem is obviously his wisdom teeth. Just get some super strong fishing line, wrap them around each wisdom tooth, tie the lines to the doorknob, slam door as hard as you can. Of course, drink the Jack first... Shell666 0 #13 September 19, 2007 Get some Orajel and put it on your gums. It should help to numb them a bit. Might not take all the pain away but it may help you get more sleep.'Shell

My gf gave me oragel and it lasted a total of about 20 minutes. millertime24 8 #15 September 19, 2007 If it is, in fact, your wisdom teeth then there really isnt anything you can do about it. I just had the AF do a lot of dental work on me and I found the best thing to medicate with is beer (unfortunately). But once I told them how bad the pain was they gave me percocet until they were done with all the shit that they were doing. I'm shocked they didnt do the same for you. simplyputsi 0 #16 September 19, 2007 go to an actual dental surgeon and get them yanked. It should take all of 2-3 days to set that up. But it will cost you money?? Which would you rather do, be in pain 24/7 and spending money on trying to get rid of it, or spend that money on getting the problem fixed and be without pain. It's your choice, quit letting some friggen gov't doc push you off.Skymama's #2 stalker -

floridadiver81 0 #19 September 19, 2007 well..i talked to the va hospital today and they said that i have to come down there and "apply" for the benefits..then wait 5 business days..then take the slip of paper they give me to the dental department..then ihave to wait to get an exam(even though i have my up to date medical and dental record with me) then i have to wait who the fuck knows how long to actually get in to have the surgery. And for the person that said just go to a normal oral surgeon...are you aware that the typical cost of having just one wisdom tooth removed is ~1500 dollars....and i have three."Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! Dental stuff is the pits.....the topical stuff doesn't last all that long, the dental blocks only last approx 8 hours depending on what they use and the expense of extraction is incredible....just be careful with the ibuprofen consumption...you don't need a bleeding ulcer or kidney failure in addition to the jaw problem. The only other thing you can really do is see if you can get a prescription for some pain medicine to get you through until you can get your teeth pulled. There aren't a whole lot of other options available.
