Where's the best place to sell tires?

Recommended Posts

My ex found 4, brand new tires with rims in his construction dumpster at work. The police told him to sell them if he wants to. I told him to try Craig's List, but is there an automotive site out there that would be better? Is there a website where he can go to, to figure out what kind of car they are for by looking at serial numbers? All he knows now is that they are for a Dodge.

I don't know why either. He said he spent 3 hours on this yesterday and that's what they told him to do with them.

tires for a specific manufacturer????
never heard of such a thing! (for the most part anyway....)
:S

no pawn shops in Sanford??? :P

as far as finding a web site...it depends on the tire size, there are some specific car type sites out there...collector, hot rod, race cars, trucks, etc...if the tires are the size that those type vehicles use, then list them there..
or save them for Alix, she'll burn off a new set rather quickly...;)

and cops don't want evidence, their job is to fill out forms and arrest people. :S>:(

ahhhh this is why I had my little incident a few weeks back. COPS CAN SUCK MY FUCKING BALLS!!!!!!!! I knew I'd never see my rims/tires again when it happened and so I did what I did to at least try and stop it.
Those are evidence, and a GOOD cop would do a check for any dodge vehicles reporting stolen rims. GD that pisses me off to no end.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. Ebay is your friend, just make sure you get the price on shipping worked out so you know what to charge. You might find a dodge enthusiast site that allows stuff to be sold on it, kind of like dz.com.
I wonder what the actual chief of police would say to an officer telling you to sell possibly stolen property. Possession is 9/10ths you know.

cops>:(>:(>:(>:(

I don't think he would ever think of going to a pawn shop, I didn't remember to think of them.

I can't believe the cops would not want them as evidence.:S

Cops are too busy to deal with evidence.

When My car was stolen they told me "we dont look for stolen cars if it turns up we'll contact you."

Apparently, in Las Vegas they don't have to do the full aspect of the job.
I figured they would have some unit that worked stolen cars. Nope.

You would probably sell them fast if you post the info on a Dodge specific web forum. I sold my wheels and tires in one day on one of the forums below. A guy offered me $800 + shipping.

Here are a three Dodge specific forums: Turbo Diesel Register (largest dodge forum), Diesel Truck Resource (my favorite), and NW Bombers is an excellent Pacific Northwest web site.

(edit to to fix the links )

Put them on Craig's list with the make/model/size clearly listed. It is the buyers responsibility to know if they fit, not the sellers. Tires are not designed for specific vehicles; The same tires can be used on various makes/models regardless if they were OEM.

And the reason I say to use Craig's list is because you need to find a LOCAL buyer. The cost of shipping large heavy items like tires makes it financially impractical to ship them.

I sold the OEM rims/tires off my 2006 Jeep on Craig's List.

I would tell him that's a pretty weak story, but as he has already run it by you, to stick with it ...consistency is important. ;)

Nah, if there's one thing he is, he's honest. He would have been happy to hand them over to the police.

Andrea,

I have sold several sets of tires with rims on ebay successfully.

If you want to find out their value quickly,, I would suggest contacting The Tire Rack (sorry, I don't have the 800 number available, but they do have a website).

When posting on ebay, put the tire size and the fact that they are brand new with rims in the heading line. After you have chosen the sale price, make sure you put in that the buyer is responsible for shipping costs. Get a quote from UPS. They're easy to ship. Take good pictures of the tread on the tires. Zoom in so it is obvious how much tread is left.

You'll be surprised how quickly they will sell provided they're priced well.

Good luck.:)
