sprtdth 0 #26 July 11, 2006 I just dug out my Crossbow harness and container. It has a Navy 26' conical canopy with the closed apex. It is most definitely standard 1.1 0z nylon material for the "cap" on the apex. For those inquiring minds that wish to know __________________________________________________ Both of my Navy conicals have a solid apex. IIRC the cap was supposed to speed up the opening (no air venting out), in the event of extreme pressure the cap would blow off. The conical could take the high pressure because of the 5 circumfrence bands which greatly increased the canopy's strength.CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #

It measures 24' with tri-vents and NO apex vent. Opens just fine for me... of course I pack it in an old Vector D-Bag with a Cruzlite slider and I open sub-terminal. At an exit weight of ~254lbs, I don't land this thing, but it is fun to fly... very quiet... JWAlways remember that some clouds are harder than others... lekstrom10k 0 #28 September 8, 2006 The origonal reason for them was for a four line release without cutting the lines . It worked well until some Canadian jompers had them freeze on them. The original four line cut was scrapped because replacing the whole line It wnet from the rear riser to the skirt then inside to the apex then down to the opposite akirt and down to the connecter link.. They finally over came this with a bright red loop you pulled to undue a daisy chain release of the two lines each side. Now you had steering lines with out reaching so far. The 24foot was the last to get Tri-Vent modification, which did away with oscillation and non steerable problems. I spent a lot of time under 23footTri-Conical , 26foot navy and my favorite 26 Strong LoPo trying to get my Baby Plane and Unit to open Hope this helps. SEREJumper 1 #29 March 28, 2011 The tread author talked about the L&R Line Release that he found. I also recently found a set on a canopy I was looking at. PN: 500 FAA-PMA, El Paso, Texas. Here is a pic if anyone was wondering. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

This is a way to do a 4 line release without cutting the canopy lines. If I remember correctly the Navy 26 ft conical had a fabric cap over the upper hem, this therefore means it had no vent. Anyone remember those canopies? Maybe I'm wrong. Yes, you are right. I have two of these canopies, Navy Conicals from the Mid to late 80's. I have a white and a 4 color. They also have no vents for steering. I bought these for $50 thinking they were C-9s and I inteded to jump them, but then I realized that I'd land hard and land oscillating...=========Shaun ==========
 Prev 1 2 Next Page 2 of 2 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
