Stevehend15 0 #1 June 19, 2006 Yesterday I had my reserve toggle come out of my container. I could see about half of the toogle below my webbing. A rigger at the DZ used a flat "y" shaped tool to push it back in. Is my reserve ok? What possible problems could this cause?

If, you have any doubts, take your rig back to your rigger and explain what happened. First though, was the reserve riser pulled up off the shoulder? I've seen that happen when a jumper would 'sling' his container by one lift web when donning his rig. Chuck
Stevehend15 0 #4 June 19, 2006 It was out of the reserve container and stille covered by my main risers and webbing. I bet I could have been able to get most of my hand inside the toggle. I can usually see some red but this way way more than usual. The rigger said it was most likely caused by me picking up the rig by risers.

Stevehend15 0 #6 June 19, 2006 The riser was pulled out a little along with the toggle.
JerryBaumchen 1,436 #7 June 19, 2006 Hi Stevehend15, I have read your posts and the replies. I tend to be rather conservative when it comes to all that I have left (the reserve parachute). I strongly recommend a repack. It takes all of your worry away. Jerry
JohnRich 4 #8 June 19, 2006 Quote just the toggle was showing? Were the risers still in place? I think what you're getting at is this: could the toggle have been pulled such that the brake setting on that side was released? And that is crucial. You wouldn't want to have a cutaway, only to have your reserve immediately open into a spin. Ack! So the owner needs to ask the rigger if he peered down inside and verified that the brake is still set for that toggle! If he checked that, then I'd jump comfortable, otherwise, I'd want it checked. councilman24 37 #9 June 19, 2006 First, if you don't trust a rigger don't have him mess with your rig, then come here and second guess him. That being said newer jumpers don't know what to look for in their rigger or their rig. I was there a long time ago. We can't diagnose what things looked like and what was done here. The conservative action is to at least open the reserve, check the risers and reclose it. If the toggle wasn't out of place a complete repack probably isn't easy necessary. BUT, only the original rigger whose seal is on the rig should do this. Other riggers may be willing to open and reclose the rig but many(most?) riggers don't believe this should be done.I'm old for my age. koppel 4 #10 June 20, 2006 and 'Down Under' only the person who signed the card last may open the rig (for the purpose of changing AAD batteries etc) and close it again without a complete repack. If it was not the last person to sign the packing data card then opening the reserve container means a complete AIR as for seeing your reserve toggle- what sort of conatiner is that?I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. Stevehend15 0 #11 June 20, 2006 Thanks for all the help. The rigger who fixed thought I should be ok. I think I am going to go to the rigger who packed it and have her look. Is the best case she opens it, looks, and closes it back up? Or is a entire repack due?

Is the best case she opens it, looks, and closes it back up? Or is a entire repack due? The rigger who did the original pack job can simply open the reserve flaps, fix the toggle, and reclose. That doesn't extend your 120 day repack, but your rigger may be willing to do the fix for free as a matter of customer support. Talk with her about what she feels she needs to do, and what the charges will be. .Tom Buchanan Instructor Emeritus Comm Pilot MSEL,G Author: JUMP!
