cdhezel 0 #1 June 19, 2006 anyone else flying a Spark ZP canopy, I have just obtained one (150) find it fun and fast with nice openings, tried sabre 1 and 2 but enjoy this canopy more, any other opinions would interest me. Blues ...CDWhen I go, I want to pass away in my sleep, just like my dear old Grandmother, NOT screaming like the passengers in the car she was driving. reusch 0 #3 June 20, 2006 The SPARK is made by Performance Variable - Germany. It's at Germany/Europe a very popular i/m canopies - very simular to Sabre 1 but with fabric from Galvanor. We have Sparks here with 2000 or more jumps on! The quality is good - no problem! The 150 opens sometimes a littlebit rough (like the sabre) but never unfair! Take it - it's OK
ernokaikkonen 0 #4 June 20, 2006 It is made by Performance Variable in Germany. It's a very straightforward 9-cell zp canopy with a rectangular planform. I've jumped it once or twice and it opened hard, but that of course may have been bad packing.
cdhezel 0 #5 June 20, 2006 Maybe I was unclear, I have purchased the canopy, the openings are not as hard as a Sabre 1 though I have only jumped the Sabre a few times, seems faster and a little more exciting than the Sabre 2 but that could be in the trim, anyway I am way happy with the rig. Thanks Performance Variable CDWhen I go, I want to pass away in my sleep, just like my dear old Grandmother, NOT screaming like the passengers in the car she was driving. riggerrob 643 #7 June 20, 2006 Sabre 1 , and all those Spark etc. clones, do not open too hard. The problem is that fashions have changed. Back when the Sabre 1 was introduced, most skygods tossed their pilot chutes at 2,000 and wanted to open NOW! Since then videographers have whined too much about hard openings and head-downers have recognized the error of dumping at 200 mph at 2,000. As for the videographers, I don't remember many full-time professional videographers back in 1999, when the Sabre 1 was introduced. It was only SINCE the introduction of tandem hordes, turbines, etc. that skydivers have asked for canopies that open softer than Sabre 1. Sorry if this sounds like an apology for Sabre 1s. I have hundreds of jumps on Sabre 1 and have only been spanked when I packed sloppily. Maybe we should just label Sabre 1s as "firm opening and intolerant of sloppy packing."
