Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC

Recommended Posts

In Savannah? Sure. Stay at one of the hotels right on river street or Bay street. Listen to all the live music at the bars on River street. Kevin Barry's Irish Pub is part-owned by a guy I used to work with. There is a great place to eat pizza in City Market (right off of Bay street). I love Savannah.

The Mulberry Inn on the waterfront in Savannah is wonderful!!!

Kevin Barry's is a lot of fun and has good food. A friend of mine performs there regularly.

Something a little more corny, but a lot of fun, is a night time ghost tour by horse and carriage. There are tons of walking tours too.

Charleston is beautiful, plenty to see and do as well, check out Rainbow Row, a row of houses from the 1700's that are all painted different colors. I can't remember the places I have stayed there though.

Have a blast!

I've been to both places a few times and they are both great. I've stayed here http://www.johnrutledgehouseinn.com with my ex-wife and it was the definition of what a B&B should be. The main suite has the biggest pocket doors I have ever seen. Have fun!

Oooh, thanks for that link! I can get a AAA rate of $162, which is pretty good considering that it will be the "high" season.

If you can delay your trip or consider going twice you have to hit the height of Azaela season in early-late March. Second the recommendation for the Mulberry. Stayed there their first night open and loved it. Lived there for many years.

You'll notice that in Sav'h there are far more large, old oaks. Charleston has been hammered over the years by hurriccanes and it shows. Both are great walking cities but after 5PM Savannah is wonderful. I lived in several carriage houses over the years. I used to just walk and walk. Knew all the players from the story Midnight in the Garden... All true to life characters and many still in town.

SCAD or Savannah College of Art and Design has saved many of the old buildings from ruin and decay. They have done a huge service in this where there was no other business alternative for these treasures. Stop by the main campus and get a map then visit some of the buildings. Breathtaking.

Coincidentally... The Savannah DZ was called Skydive City from 76-81 c/o yours truly.

If you have the time, read "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" before you go.

Go find Forest Gump's bench. It's the only bench in any of the "parks". About two blocks off Water Street. Near an English pub.
Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.

I was in Charelston for a while. Beautiful area. North End Brewery was nice, not sure if it is still there.

There are a few restaraunts that are fronts for clubs. go thru a door in the back and it opens up to a crazy party scene.

lots of history.

About a 45 minute ride down a very straight road (very fast) will lead you to Skydive Walterboro. That's where I first started jumping.

Learn to be happy. You can't be there for anybody else in life if you can't learn to be there for yourself.
