Icon Setting brakes

Recommended Posts

G Day Guys

I just got my new Icon container and have gone throught the cd suplied with it to get the packing sorted out and I have found somthing that I dont like/aggree with.
On page 21 in the "setting deployment brakes" the first 2 photos are easy to follow, but the storage of the extra brake line is what I feel is a bit odd. If i do it as shown by storing the excess line in the webing holders from the right to left (top to bottom) when I release and deploy my brakes the excess line wll jam on the holder webing.
With it laying on the ground I have tried it and dont like the tension it creats, I have tried storing them left to right( bottom to top) and it seams a lot better.

So am I being anal or what?? some help would be great cause a mal on my first jump with new gear would be to much beer for my budget!!

Are you referring to the instructions on page 23 of this manual?

If it is, I've jumped Icon risers before and stowed the excess line as pictured. When I unstowed my brakes, everything went according to plan. This was with fairly new/slick lines.
I really don't know what I'm talking about.

I have about 100 jumps on my Icon and have stored my brakes like this on every one with out any problems. I actualy like the way it is set up as it keeps the extra line stored neatly away and it works great.:)

I think it works alright but

Why in the hell do they show the nose through the ring in the bottom riser of the top picture???

I've known newbies to do this for many jumps... until finally a break let go on opening. Every once in a while I catch someone doing this. I just don't want anybody to think this is what should be done!!

Hey I hadn't noticed that. Thanks for the heads-up.

To the original poster, I do as advised in the manual. I've never had a problem. I also pass the toggle pin into the loop made by the stowed extra brake line before inserting the pin into the riser.

I'm jumping a Icon and i set the brake lines just like in the picture. Never had any problem, maybe it gets "stuck" because you hold it down on the ground???
I'd stick to the manual if i were you.

That manual needs a bit of work...I particularly like the closing sequence...:S

(Is it left right, or right left? Where does the bridle come out, top right or bottom right? There are 3 different closing sequences in the pictures, and another in the words!)

The Wings manual is the same, in that the pictures say one thing, and the words another...is it deliberate (to cover themselves) or just sloppy?
