What does the phrase "real woman" mean to you?

Recommended Posts

We all hear it. "That's a real woman". And I'm not talking about the bolt-ons (i.e. fake boobs), but the body itself.

The word "real" is usually associated with women who are.... overweight.

Is it just the nice way to lable the typical overweight American (or otherwise, but mostly American) woman?

Short - Likes to fuck - A LOT - Can take care of herself (financially, emotionally, physically) - Can be a lady when she wants to, but like to be a whore sometimes - doesn't NEED a man, but knows when to let a man BE a man - and can suck a dick like she invented it.

Yep - that about covers it.

Right, but I'm talking about "real" when it's referenced to the physical body. I think we could all agree (for the most part) with your statement about the person herself.

I'll bet you are a real catch too.
. . . as are a lot of women that are risk takers.

Some - not so much[:/] . . . but it is easy to recognize those.

Hmm... It doesn't seem to mean anything to me. I guess it's something I never hear anyone say. But if I did hear it, it would probably depend on who was saying it and in what context.

But my first thought is that it means an actual woman, as opposed to one of those cardboard-beer-ad women (or something like that). :P

Hmmm, I guess my amnswer to that is, it depends on how much you love the woman . . . love melts the pounds away.:)

Did ya know Marilyn Monroe was a size 16? ;)

Did you know that dress sizes were different back then? ;) I used to be in to wearing vintage clothes, and the dresses that fit me were usually a size 8-10, even though I wore a modern size 0-2. So I'm guessing that Marilyn didn't wear a modern size 16.

i don't agree with that at all - i think like others have said its a woman who is comfortable in her own skin - that doesnt starve herself because she can't stand not being a size zero - just because a woman has curves does not mean she is overweight

if you're happy with yourself than it really doesnt matter what other people think of you

I'd say a size 10-14, maybe 16, who takes care of themselves. Did ya know Marilyn Monroe was a size 16? ;)

So what about people who don't wear 10-14?

As long as they take care of themselves and have a good life, they're fine. I'm just not a skin and bones or blubber fat kind of guy... :P

Even Davids Bridal has a "Woman" collection (which is plus size)

Hrm, thats a good point. A lot of places consider 0-16 juniors, and anything higher to be 'women's' sizes. That does seem a bit fucked up.

Really? I've heard it many many times in reference to physique. Even Davids Bridal has a "Woman" collection (which is plus size), which is along the same lines.

Are they suggesting that smaller sizes are just Girls?

I have never heard or thought that the term meant "overweight"- since when is this the case? "Real" to me means just that-not fake or plastic, and that doesn't have to be physical- I think its more attitude than anything else.

Great- now if I ever hear anyone say that about me, I'll just assume I've been insulted instead of complimented. thanks so much! :S

Well that's kind of what I'm getting at here.

"Real" doesn't seem to apply to thin (sizes 0-4,5,6 I dunno?), in shape, women, just the plus size type.

Well it's all subjective. A size 16 in today's world is blubber fat to a lot of people.

That's true. I'm no doctor, but I'd think anything over size 20 is unhealthy.

Oh and those size 0 runway models, size 4 is blubber fat to THEM! :S

I don't think it's supposed to be an insult, but I do think that being overweight has become such an epidemic (in this country at least) that being thin and in shape seems out of reach and unrealistic to most people. Hence where the "real" term comes from.

That's just my thought on it.

I think it injustice to label a person "Plastic", for paying a lot of time and interest into taking care of her physical appearance, or making it one of her highest priorities.

On the flip side - women (as a whole, not individuals) are so entranced by their looks and projected persona that they have become VERY vulnerable in this regard.

I think Jessica Simpson would fit the "real" category physically and is thin too.
