Shotgun 1 #51 August 31, 2007 QuoteJust an aside on the whole clothing issue: "Misses" clothing is between "juniors" and "womens." Misses sizing goes down to some small sizes (including 0 and 2), but has a different cut than the "juniors" lines of clothing because most women acquire some curves as they get older (and not necessarily bad ones). Yeah, that's the way I usually see it: Juniors (~1-15), Misses (0-16) and Womens ("plus" sizes). The Misses and Juniors seem to fit the same sizes (I can wear either), but the Juniors tend to have a "younger" style to them. I've never seen the term "real woman" when shopping (referring to plus sizes), but then I don't shop very much.
Remster 30 #52 August 31, 2007 QuoteMy size is considered "petite". But my point is why use the word "real"? As almost to say that women who aren't "full-figured" aren't just as real or womanly? It's just a new term that marketers now use since full figured is now viewed as negative (when n fact, it was introduced to replace the "Large" qualificative used before). In a few year, "Real" will be replaced by something else.Remster
wmw999 2,439 #53 August 31, 2007 Count me among the many who've never heard the term "real woman" as referring to size. It's about what she can do and how and why she does it. But a real woman is probably not timid. If she's scared, she faces up to her fears and deals with them, just as she deals with whatever else comes along. If you can take the bottle cap off a beer with your remaining teeth, and then bring it to your boyfriend between your boobies -- now that's a real woman Wendy W. There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. The111 1 #54 August 31, 2007 QuoteWe all hear it. "That's a real woman". Actually I haven't heard that too much, or if I have I must have ignored it as incredibly non-descriptive. But regarding this whole discussion, I'm not sure what the point is of trying to take one word (real), which already has a definition, and try to assign it some new incredibly complex definition when used in conjunction with the word "woman." We already have a complete langauge system, why not just use that to say what you want to say about a woman? If you like women tall, short, skinny, fat, submissive, dominant, loud, quiet, or WHATEVER, just say so. The word "real" is never going to summarize all that.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
Shotgun 1 #55 August 31, 2007 Quote >What does the phrase "real woman" mean to you? A woman who defines herself by her own internal values, instead of considering her external appearance or circle of friends as central to her identity. You're so shallow, Bill. I think that Wendy has a much better definition.

Thanks, you and billwon put it so much better than I could ever have. And no, I haven't missed the point. "I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food." Jumpfunder 0 #59 August 31, 2007 I think that 'real' is a little deeper. The ability to listen and empathize. The desire to show who you really and ask for what you want. Being able to admit that you need other people and that you care...the body shit is just icing on the cake.

VanillaSkyGirl 6 #61 August 31, 2007 QuoteYou or Rosa (I have never met you that I remember, But I do know Rosa) could NOT body slam me. That's an assumption on your end. While I am thought of as very feminine, I am very strong for my size and gender, but I would never need to show that side of myself to you in everyday situations, unless you were somehow attacking me. I was once jumped by three strong black women (5'9", 5'8" and 5'6" and all strong girls), and I (at 5'0" and 90 lbs back then) fought back and believe it or not, left them much more injured, than they left me. My back was to them, when I was jumped, so it was completely in self-defense. I obviously don't "fight" strangers on a regular basis. (I haven't fought anyone like that before or since then.) I have feeling that Chelle could also more likely than not kick someone's ass. She is stronger than she looks. That said, what does our size have to do with anything? Sure, I am naturally short and small-boned, but I eat everything and anything. I am not my size because I watch calories or workout. I don't even have time to "workout", unless I do the rare hike, jump, climb. I'm not rail-thin...parts of me jiggle, and that's always been ok. I am wearing no make-up at all in this avatar. (I usually wear make-up, but I'm trying to be ok with nothing at all on my face.) I also usually walk around in simple outfits, like jeans and a sweater. I'm 36, not 16. I think of myself as a real woman. Chelle is a mother and wife, and she is a straight-shooter, talented, physically capable and smart, also. I think of her as a real woman. She is not a non-woman, just because she is in great shape. I don't even understand what size has to do with her being a real woman. Is it fair for a mother to not be considered real because her body has snapped back into shape, after childbirth? Does "size" determine a "real man"? Is a man who is too thin, too short, too whatever not "real"? Is he not "real", if he shaves his facial hair off or if he doesn't have a beer gut?
