People who forward BS emails.

Recommended Posts

What do you think when you get either

1) one of those cutesy emails that have some "inspirational" message & then tells you that you'll have good luck if you forward it to 5 people, or bad luck if you don't

or
2) Those emails that contain some bullshit warning or urban myth or something, so that it is clear that the person never bothered to check its validity before forwarding it.

The main administrative assistant where I work often forwards the second type. Unfortunately, when I tried to inform her that the email was not true, I guess I insulted her a little bit. One of her closest friends sent it to her, and "he wouldn't forward me junk" so therefore, the email must be correct and I am just wrong.:|

oh well. now I've learned to just delete those emails & keep my big mouth shut.:P

Prove her wrong by sending her the link to snopes, if it has the proof. If she don't like it, so what. Maybe she won't send you any more. ;)

1) I delete them

2) I run it through Snopes. If unconfirmed or false, I reply to the sender with a link to the Snopes page.

I delete everything that has been forwarded multiple times and is broken up by forward indentation marks.

I only forward really good things, and I copy/paste them into a new email, clean up the text using a little freeware tool (I forget the name) and put all of the recipients in the Bcc: line (using my own address as the only one in the To: line).

I did.

She had sent that email about how the Koran says "the eagle will cleanse the Arab" in chapter9, verse 11 (9/11, get it??), and that Oliver North warned us about Osama bin Laden during the Iran-Contra trials.

I showed her the Koran Online, and how it doesn't say anything like that, and also Oliver North's own website in which he says that the OBL warning wasn't true (he warned about another terrorist active at that time, named Abu Nidal).

She still didn't believe me. She swore up & down that she remembers the OBL warning from the Iran Contra trials.:S Even when I showed her Oliver North's own website denying it.

some things are unprovable to some people.

Didn't you know? If, it's on the internet... it's true!:D:D:D Some folks just wanna believe what they want to believe and you can't do a whole lot about it. I think, the deal with sending-out forwards to everyone in their address book is a way of saying; 'I know, you are out there but, I just don't have the time to write something worthwhile, caring or interesting but, I'm thinking of you!':D:D I love that 'Delete' button!

Well, you could always forward it to your IT person and report her for spamming!:P

Seriously though, a person I always considered a very good friend stopped speaking to me when I told her exactly how I felt about a forwarded email she sent me which I considered to be in the 2nd category. It was not only BS but I found it really offensive and racist and I was shocked that she would send me something like that. She was highly offended that I was offended. Now, I just go with the ignore, delete and keep my mouth shut option. [:/]

Fuckit - Send her a link to snopes regarding the e-mail.

Yup. Me too. people stop sending me the BS *warning*s and missing kids and shit when I REPLY TO ALL that they forwarded to with the snopes page on it. ;)

Then we both look like asses. Them for sending crap, and me for outing them in front of all of their little forwarding friends...good riddance. :P

I actually have my spam filter set up to auto delete anything that has 'Fw:' in the subject line.

I think it's fun to forward on something that could be educational or inspirational or funny to someone else. Some have told me not to send them "useless" emails so I don't but most I think can tell if it's something they're not interested in and just delete. Maybe you should tell her to forward only work related emails. Just a thought.

Here's a third type that drives me nuts - see the attached image.

Why do they feel the need to use such a HUGE font for the text? Do they think that the larger they say it, that the more important it is? You can't even get an entire sentence on one screen! I hate that. I don't waste my time scrolling down for half an hour to read the entire message. Does this practice bug anyone else?

Reply with a picture of Walt's turd.[:/]

Sorry, I've got nuthin.:| I delete all of them from both categories.

Oh MAN!! I just got a refresher on that this weekend. We were jumping at the beach in Galveston, and he actually STILL has those pictures in his camera.[:/] Just when I think the nightmare is over......IT'S NEVER OVER....apparently:S

Okay, back on topic of the thread. I don't even bother reading those e-mails anymore because it's just too time consuming. I can't help but think that somewhere, these e-mails are being tracked by someone and they are laughing their heads off at the number of gullable people out there![:/]
