Telek 0 #26 July 5, 2006 QuoteGo back and reread what Billvon said. Its to do with orientation/pressure changes during the opening sequence and will affect vigils and cypres2 equally. Except it was 980 that posted this information and contacted the manufacturer, and he said nothing about body position, he explicity said that the Airtec confirmed that it arms at 1100ft and fires at 750ft. QuoteSome feel that since Airtec (cypres) has been around much longer than AAD (vigil) their products have a better proven track record of reliability. Vigils had a few problems with ground firings when they were first introduced which some people are probably still nervous about. This is true, however didn't Airtec have similar problems when they first came out? Thanks for the discussion everyone!
980 0 #27 July 5, 2006 I said nothing about body position as that is not the cause of the fire. The rapid pressure change is and I mentioned that. A change in body position will result in that rapid pressure change. and I contacted SSK, not Airtec. for the record: I still think Cypres is the best AAD out there, Cypres 2 even more so and will get one again. I just raised my hard deck because I now know a little more about how the function.
billvon 2,991 #28 July 5, 2006 >why go with a Cypres? Well, for one reason: In Thailand this year, a pressurization problem resulted in several Vigils firing and several Cypres 1's shutting down. The Cypres 2's were unaffected. That's a sellling point for Cypres 2's for me, since I occasionally jump aircraft that can be pressurized. However, for jumpers that do not jump such aircraft, this may not be a factor.

If you really want a vigil instead of a cypres then get one - you don't need to prove the cypres is defective to justify that decision.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
