QuoteCorrect and a Pilot isn't as slippery as a PD canopy when its new. So it is easier to pack
That was my point. It does not have to do with experience because I demoed the Sabre2 only a few weeks before I got the Pilot. Same amount of experience for each. I have heard others say the Aerodyne's are less slippery, so I must not be imagining it.

QuoteI recall reading that they use a less slippery kind of ZP, a bit like PISA used to...before it became Aerodyne. I saw some dude out in Gap packing a brand new Sabre2. Brings back 'pleasant' memories of wrestling with mine a few years back...
When my Pilot was brand new it was slippery, but nothing like some brand new PD canopies I've struggled with. Also a rigger showed me how to be more assertive with the way to grip and handle the canopy to make it do your bidding.
The other truly valuable piece of advice I got from Dominic was to land in the student area (which at Perris is a plowed up dirt field) and drag the canopy around a couple times. The results are truly miraculous.
As far as fwd speed goes, I couldn't say, other than the Pilot has got absolutely the flattest glide of any canopy I've ever jumped. It's even a little too flat of a glide in no wind, you'll need to get on your fronts so you won't overshoot the dropzone. The payoff is the way it gets you back from some really long spots.

It's the pilot, not the canopy.
If you are able to make the right setup you can land your Pilot wherever you want.
Pilot is a perfect canopy if you don't want to swoop.

You list swooping as your main activity and you jump a Pilot?
A good swooper can swoop a Manta.

I am learning to swoop on a pilot 150 loaded at 1.4. I am typically doing 135 front risers from 300 feet. I usually need to hold a tiny bit of double fronts for a second or 2 after coming out of the turn to keep the canopy from planing out too early. It seems to be an ideal setup for learning and I am getting enough speed and long enough swoops to keep my interest levels going for the time being. I don't think it is a bad canopy to start swooping on at all. Also, none of the coaches I have trained with have suggested otherwise
My next canopy though will probably be a change to somthing like a xfire 150 in a few 100 jumps rather than a downsize.
