SpecialKaye 0 #1 August 16, 2007 Okay, so I've had pets before that seemed to get along, but my bunnies are special. We've had the big girl (she's black with a white nose and weighs around 10-11 pounds) for the past two years. She just showed up from the neighbors and decided that the grass was greener on the other side of the fence and it really was. She lives in the house with cool tile floor, eats whatever she wants, lays around on the furniture...she's a hoot. So, last fall I was taking care of my dad who was dying, missing the big girl and decided to get a bunny since I wasn't sure how long I would be away from "home" taking care of him. The little man is a Netherland Dwarf that looks like Thumper from Bambi and he wasn't that old when I brought him back to FL. I was really scared introducing the two because I had tried to introduce other bunnies to the girl and she wanted no part of any companion. Now, almost a year later, they are absolutely inseparable. If he's laying by himself, she finds him and lays with him and vice versa. And we're talking spooning...it's adorable. I've pretty much lost custody of my baby boy to the big girl...I know if I move out, I can't take him away from her...he'd be heartbroken. Anyone else have a similar story? LisaM 0 #2 August 16, 2007 Well, I don't think mine is a love affair. But, when I got kitty #2 (she was 8 weeks and the other was about 4 months) they hissed and fought. The older one then took on an almost mothering role of the little one. Now in the middle of the night, if the older one cannot find the younger one, she comes with this dreadful meow to let me know she cannot find Lucy. I'll get up and she'll follow me til we find Lucy and then she's quiet and happy. It's quite cute. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
SpecialKaye 0 #3 August 17, 2007 see Mama loves her baby...how sweet. My bunnies play soccer during the middle of the night with little jingle balls (cat toys) and if you catch them playing like that in the middle of the night, the little man looks at you like "I didnt' do it"....then they want a treat before you go back to bed. Pets give us so much joy...I love my babies. Kaye
ChrisL 2 #4 August 17, 2007 We recently added a new dog to our family. Our first troubled little boy is a 15 lb Jack Russel Terrier named Benson, and he is about as nerotic and high strung as you can possibly imagine. Puppy mill dog, and we just didnt know any better. Extreme seperation anxiety that turns into agression on occasion if you move for the door too quickly. Gotta take it slow :-) The poor little boy was broken from birth. He cant help it. We love him and give him a good home. You don't throw away family members because they are inconvenient or problematic. Anyway, he is 6 now and we have always been terribly afraid of getting any other dogs because of how he would react. He doesn't get along well with other dogs at all. My wife was absolutely dying to get a Chinese Crested Hairless, but we waited a long time. I didn't really think much of the idea of another small dog, especially one so notoriously funny looking, but I finally relented. We got a 12 week old female. I figured a girl would be better as it wouldn't trigger any male dominance issues with Benson and he would be far less likely to feel threatened by a baby than an adult. Still, I was afraid he would hurt her accidentally and he was acting so squirrelly the first few days that we had to keep him muzzled a lot of the time. I was afraid he would not be able to get used to her. My wife introduced them a little bit at a time over a period of about a week. The final result is really amazing. She is now about 8 months old, and she is absolutely best friends with Benson. He LOVES her, and she LOVES him. They play with each other constantly and lie together when resting. Benson's behavior in general has improved dramatically since she has been with us. He is far less fearful and panicky and generally more playful and happy. The difference is amazing. She has a magic touch. As for me, I fell in love with her too. Me. The big macho guy that wants big dogs and hates the little ones. I adore the little girl. She is a bird brain, and she looks ridiculous, but is so unbelievably sweet, calm, and affectionate that it melted my heart.__ My mighty steed
flygirl1 0 #5 August 17, 2007 I got a little lilac point siamese kitten in February I named Katana. A few weeks later I fell in love with another siamese kitten I saw at a pet adoption fair they were having at a petco Brian and I stopped at on the way to the DZ. I thought it would be a good idea to give Katana a play mate since I was gone most of the day so we brought him home. I gave him a few days to get used to his new house and for her to get used to his smell and then I tried to introduce them. At first sight they pounced on each other and went flying across the room in a big ball of teeth and fur I separated them but, every time I tried to put them together the same thing happened. I was really upset but, when I told my vet about it she said not to worry they were just playing. I reluctantly put them back to gather watched them wrestle for a while and then cuddle up and go to sleep Fly like a girl

ImGunnaJump 0 #8 August 18, 2007 Ahhh...this was a nice little thread! I've been wanting to get a 2nd cat, but have been worried about bringing a new one in. My Sophie is 11mos. and it took her a good little while to settle in as she was shuttled between several foster homes, and I think that experience made her a little nervous. It took her a while to realize "this is really my home". I think she needs a pal while I'm at work, but I'm worried she'll freak. She doesn't like encountering any of the neighborhood cats - when one of them recently hopped up on the window sill outside, she went crazy hissing and howling.Glad to hear these stories worked out! SpecialKaye 0 #9 August 19, 2007 If I can get to someone's place that has anything besides our horrible dialup...we live in the boondocks outside Tampa and Verizon doesn't offer us anything but dialup...it sucks and trying to download anything takes forever. They are great, and they are sweet. The little man is getting ready to go on his first real vacation and not taking to the harness and leash very well...he's like a bucking bronc when you put the harness on him right now. And he's usually so docile. He turns around and looks at me like he absolutely hates me when I'm trying to get him used to it. Big girl was the same way BD 2005, but then when we got her out of the house and she was on the leash, I think she realized it was for her own good. Little man has just been spoiled rotten for the past year and wants to do what he wants to do.
