pwln 0 #4 August 8, 2007 We grow tomatoes and peppers every year, mainly for salsa and chili. This year I'm only growing roma tomatoes, Habanero, Jalapeno, and Bell peppers. The Habanero is going crazy, it has 25+ peppers on it and they are almost ready, I've already picked 2. Next time you come to the DZ ask my wife and she may tell you what she puts in her salsa. Last year we had Habanero, Jalapeno, Thai Dragon, Caribbean Red Hot, assorted Bell and a few other "sweet" peppers. The salsa tastes so much better when you grow it. I hear there's some good recipies at ZhillsSome people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie. mcrocker 0 #14 August 12, 2007 Cilantro is a must have for any salsa. Problem is it will wilt quickly so cut it up fresh. A couple splashes of Worcestorshire sauce gives it a nice depth Dice up some pears, the sweetness drops the heat down. Everyone thinks it is weird to have pears in salsa but trust me, it works. Capsaicin is oil soluable so adding some oil helps bring out the flavor (and ups the heat). A small amount of peanut butter goes a long way.
Casurf1978 0 #15 August 12, 2007 You might also want to add a little bit of vodka or tequilla to some salsas. Tomatoes contain alcohol-soluble flavors and can only be tasted in its presence.
Icon134 0 #16 August 13, 2007 I always get and add fresh Cilantro... I also usually put in a bit of oil (I got that idea somewhere as well... I really like the idea of adding a few pears and a bit of Worcestershire sauce.Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
