ACMESkydiver 0 #1 August 4, 2007 Hey! How are we doing? I was down 15 1/2 pounds, but I'm afraid I gained a couple back these last two days, but I don't want to check and kill my motivation... I've had some challenges to get around, but who hasn't? Today is the 4th day in a row I haven't been able to workout, and it sucks. I swear I've been just about to hit it, and something comes up. Today it was taking Joey into the ER (no trouble he's ok thank God). Dang it if I could just grab one week without being out of town, in the hospital, or both I'd be doing better. Tomorrow it's on again... How are you doing, guys & gals?~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.

The exercise has it's own reward in terms of tone, flexibility and overall feeling good, but any moderate diet will work. sv3n 0 #5 August 4, 2007 You're right, weight loss and/or fitness does not require a special plan or diet..........sort of. Depending on what you're trying to do. If you're looking to drop a few, let me restate that...few pounds and normally don't do any form of fitness. Then going on a thirty minute walk a day will help a lot. But if you're trying to burn off a midget and a half then that walk alone isn't gonna do it. Example: You take in 3,000 calories a day and through exercise and living throughout the day you burn off 2,500.................you still have an extra 500 calories that's going to get stored....as, you guessed it, fat. In this example a diet change is necessary. It's the lady in front of you at the fast food counter who's order goes a little something like this....."I'll take a number 5, a number 7, jumbo size them both, and I'll have a diet coke". And then walks for 30 minutes. The diet soda, while it might knock off a couple hundred calories isn't really the main problem. Just cause you start drinking diet soda and walk for 30 minutes doesn't mean you can eat whatever you want. You have to do the math.....if you are trying to lose weight the amount of calories that you put in needs to be exceeded by the number of calories that you burn off.............if that isn't happening, you're not losing weight or fat. With the exercise you would be helping your fitness level, but not dropping weight.....actually, you'd probably gain a little weight because you might gain some muscle, which is heavier than fat. In short terms, a diet and exercise plan helps keep you on track............especially if it's laid out for you. You can essentially check each activity off for the day rather than playing the self defeating game of......."well, I don't have to walk thirty minutes today I can just walk 15.". Get a plan, stick to the plan, achieve your goals....and you're in violation of your face!

ACMESkydiver 0 #9 August 4, 2007 Nobody wants to make this work as much as I do. I know diet is the most of it...because 30 minutes on a treadmill will burn off a whole fucking piece of bread , calorie per minute wise...however the longer benefits of getting your heart rate up are interesting and beneficial. Strength training increases your muscle mass, which in turn burns more calories around the clock, and I typically do both each day. I know all this...I was once in amazing shape, and few know this, but I actually have more college credits in physical education than anything else other than aviation, so it isn't 'Jaye-ology' or any other kind of BS...The last 4 days was tough; my assigned workout time was superceded by higher priorities -huge client $$$ account, emergency room, sh*t like that. But today I'll be able to get cardio and strength in. To fit in my exercise for SURE, I have to get up earlier. I can do that 3-4 days per week on average -Again, we are working with sleep disorders, and it really is challenging dealing with someone else's medical condition that imposes itself on you. When we've had a rougher night and I've been in bed at 1am, up at 3am, up at 5am on, that time that I would set aside to work out when I have a caregiver here to watch the kids often gets pushed aside for sleep. It's not negotiable in many cases; I'm driving. I can't drive without sleep, it just doesn't work for me. I have been in an accident that I caused from falling asleep at the wheel. I will never risk that again. It's ok, I'm not upset about it. I know I'm not seeing the results I had wanted, and I know why. It's no mystery. I just get up when I fall down and keep going. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
RkyMtnHigh 0 #10 August 4, 2007 I recently got a personal trainer for 3 hours/week and she has me doing circuit training/strength training for a solid hour each visit. I'm eating much healthier food selections and smaller portions as well. The part that I don't understand is why I seem to be hungry every 2-3 hours. I used to skip breakfast and sometimes lunch as well and eat fish and steamed veggies for dinner. The trainer told me that it's a MUST that I eat breakfast every day even if I'm not hungry. So I'm eating oatmeal or yogurt to jumpstart my day. With this new frequency of hunger, I wonder if I should drink water and ignore it or eat a lowfat/low cal snack. Has anyone experienced similar or know why the increased hunger? _________________________________________
ACMESkydiver 0 #11 August 4, 2007 I've had the exact same problem with hunger when I'm eating MORE than I had before. I wish I had some help for ya, but I am still trying to get over it myself. The only thing I've found to kill my hunger is to cut out the sugars and carbs and stick to it, then it takes (no kidding) 3 weeks for me personally to completely lose hunger...some people, it only takes a few days to lose their 'extra' or 'craving' appetite. It's a completely individual thing as to when your body will accept your new time and style of eating, and then finally adapt to it enough to alleviate that hunger. Myself, I have to start over again. I was there, but then of course I slipped up, and now it will be 3 weeks again to get back to that point. No big deal, I just wish it didn't take me that long. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
Jumpervint 0 #12 August 4, 2007 I'm down 23 pounds since mid-Juneish. Another 5 or so and I'm good, and off the 'overweight' category on the bmi charts. I went on a biz trip and thought I would eat poorly, but managed to do okay and get a long walk in one evening. I've also been helping tear down an old hangar at our new-to-be dz, so those two days of physical exertion helped. Over all, I'm a happy dieter. Vint. . . . . "Make it hard again." sv3n 0 #14 August 4, 2007 The earlier you eat the better......that first, apple...omelet or whatever is actually what starts your metabolism. So if you skip breakfast, you don't start burning calories til you eat something. Our bodies aren't setup to take 3 meals of mass calories a day.......your body needs nutrients throughout the day spaced out. So by eating meals spaced out every 3 hours you're keeping your metabolism going......it slows down when it has nothing to process.......and keeping your body filled with the stuff it needs. As far as your hunger.........you're now exercising more and eating healthier. Your body isn't accustomed to this. It's like chinese food, most people are hungry thirty minutes later again because their body is so accustomed to a majority of their meal being meat or starches, not vegetables or fruit. Plus, with the exercise you're burning more calories and with the eating good you're probably eating less calories. It'll take a bit for your body to adjust. Drink lots of water and try no calorie snacks like celery. QuoteI recently got a personal trainer for 3 hours/week and she has me doing circuit training/strength training for a solid hour each visit.
