From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

James Robert (Jim Bob) Duggar (born 1963), of Tontitown, Arkansas, served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002.

Duggar was a candidate for the United States Senate in 2002, but lost to Tim Hutchinson.[1] Duggar sought the Republican nomination to the Arkansas State Senate District 35 seat in Arkansas in 2006,[2] but lost to candidate Bill Pritchard. Duggar is a real estate agent, and owns several commercial properties in his local area.[3]

Duggar and his wife Michelle (born 1966) are politically conservative fundamentalist Christians who endorse Quiverfull and the teachings of Bill Gothard. They reportedly live debt free.[4][5]

I am very impressed that they are debt-free

Maybe he wants to run again, but has a new theory on "securing the popular vote".

Hope he's giving the kids a big allowance.:D

Me too... that's fucking amazing. Then again, real estate can be a lucrative business if you know what you're doing.

Looks like they are all doing quite well. Neat, clean looking kids, appear to be well taken care of... what's the problem?
It does remind me of a little rhyme and I think you'll like this Billy...

Yes! It sure does. Sam Kinison was really cool. Too bad, he had to leave so soon. Like john Candy, jim Belushi...

i'm absolutely impressed with how organized that household is and how well behaved those children are. the also are able to pay cash for everything. i believe that one of the older children produced or was heavily involved with the production of their discovery shows.

on a side note, her vagina must be HUGE! how does he get enough friction to procude more children?

And I thought we had a lot of kids with 4! Well, 17 is a lot, but it looks like they are self supporting and happy. Where's the "disgust" for all the 3rd generation welfare moms with 4-5 kids by 4-5 dads? I know I've been reproached for having just 4 kids, none of them on public support, I might add.

Another thing to consider: Without immigration, this country would actually have had a population decline over the last decade or so, same as in Europe. Whether or not a decline would be good or not is a whole 'nother question.:)

My only concern is their faith-based reasoning, IMO, for having so many kids. Do it because you want to, not out of service or guilt to your Deity.

Do I need a flame suit now?:o

Their life and family seems to be more organized and loving than a lot of single children families I know. Debt free no less! Anybody else???

they's some VERY judgemental people on this site.
:S
I think there are also plenty of people out there that would fundamentally disapprove of the way you live.
;)
to each their own...:)

They maybe debt free but can they stay debt free??
Weddings...college...god forbid childhood illness...

I wonder if we will read in the newspaper how a mom snapped under the pressure of raising 17 kids and did something terrible??

I remember a show on Discovery, I think, about a very large family, 10+ children, who were building a new home that was something like 5000 square feet.

It was the same family. From what I've seen and read, they are very happy, and are raising good kids.

Not my style though...

"A baby has been born in every month except June; the Duggars have gone through an estimated 90,000 diapers, and Michelle, 40, has been pregnant for 126 months — or 10.5 years — of her life."

Yeah! That sure sounds like fun!!!:S

You're assuming that I don't have "disgust" for all the 3rd generation welfare moms with 4-5 kids by 4-5 dads?

I seriously believe there should be a 2 kid limit, but that's my personal belief. You just said that you have 4 kids and I hope you don't take that statement as me judging you because I'm not. I know nothing about you or your family. I just happen to feel that the world is overpopulated enough, and there are plenty of children out there that need homes, so why shouldn't we adopt?

Additionally, I don't understand the high value people place on their own genes, especially when so many of our genes are plagued with hereditary illness. Why pass that on? Granted children you adopt may have illnesses, but that I can deal with. My fucked up genes end with me. Now excuse me while I go get my tubes tied.

It's commendable how some of you have a "live and let live" approach to this family's "choice" to have as a many children as they can.

And it's deplorable how some others of you are so judgemental about it.

My wife and I are dealing with this kind of bigotry right now. We're having our 5th child in December. And people, including my parents are just beside themselves about how irresponsible it is to have "so many" children, and they often use some of the same arguments that some of you use... what about the quality time for the parents... what about the money issue... overpopulation... blah blah blah...

I tell you what... instead of making assumptions about how these kids must be worked too hard or must not have enough time w/ mommy or daddy or that mommy and daddy don't have enough time w/ each other, I challenge any of you to go meet some large families for yourself... families like these, whose faith is fervent, who home school their kids, who put God first, who live a self-reliant life... compare the life satisfaction of these kids to those of most others found in todays world that come from 1-2 kid homes, whose parents treat school and TV and video games as babysitters.

Rate them on self-esteem, parent-child interaction, maturity, intelligence, altruism, ability to get along with other kids in their own age group AND in other age groups. I'll bet the kids from large families score higher in just about every single category. I've seen it in my kids and in just about every other large homeschooled family I've been around in the last 10 years.

Then look at the parents... rate their marital satisfaction, their frequency of fights (or lack thereof), their level of intimacy and communication, their amount of time together, all these things against couples who purposely don't live this way. Again, I'm 100% positive you'll find that the marital satisfaction of the couples with large families is way off the charts.

Now, I'm not saying that you must have a large family in order to have a happy family. Some families, like my own family of origin, are incapable, either physically, economically, psychologically... whatever. And in such cases, it's better NOT to have a large family IF there is something that will prevent the parents and/or children from realizing the full potential of what a family should be. However, what I am saying is that it is FAR easier for a family TO realize it's full happiness, to truly create outstanding human beings, when it is LARGE.

Sacrifice, selflessness, giving, sharing, charity, friendship, communication, heroism, work, ethics, love, generousity, etc..... all these things just come easier in a large family.

And Chris. And...
