beowulf 1 #5 August 3, 2007 I saw that yesterday on ESPN HD. It was a brutal fall. He should have been carried out. I swear he has broken bones. I didn't finish watching the whole thing so I don't know if they ever said what his injuries were.

How he didn't at the very least crush his heels is beyond me. And I agree they should never have let him walk off that ramp, no matter how much he protested. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
DFWAJG 4 #7 August 4, 2007 I agree with you Iceman. I've seen it over and over where an athlete, suffers a concussion, and because the guy doesn't want to stay in the hospital, fights, etc, gets let go. So many of them, because of the concussion, lack judgment, and therefore the capacity, to make the decision to walk away. If anything further happened to that kid, it would surely be (and rightfully so) a malpractice case against the evaluating doctor.

d_squared431 0 #9 August 4, 2007 It wouldn't be malpractice due to the fact that the doctor would have advised against him leaving. Anyone can leave the hospital at anytime against medical advise, which to me is wrong in many cases but what can be done to stop someone and make them stay against their will?TPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly
ACMESkydiver 0 #10 August 4, 2007 Damn...that was brutal to watch. I support the opinion that the man should never have been allowed to get up and walk off. In my very unprofessional opinion, they should have brought him out on a back board. Shit I've been on a back board more times than I'll admit, and for less than that. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. I'm sorry but I wouldn't let him move after that!!! backboard and C-collar his ass and get him to a CT scanner pronto!!! Fuck that mocho shit!!!I have personally escorted someone from there er room to xray to get a Lumbar Spine series. He insisted on walking since the doc had taken him off the back board. We get him over there and he had a crushed L1 and fractured L2 the doc about shit a brick when i went back to get his gurney and to ask him if he wanted him back on the board. DFWAJG 4 #24 August 4, 2007 QuoteIt wouldn't be malpractice due to the fact that the doctor would have advised against him leaving. Anyone can leave the hospital at anytime against medical advise, which to me is wrong in many cases but what can be done to stop someone and make them stay against their will? you can give advise, but if the patient lacks capacity to understand what is going on, then the doctor is obligated to hold that person. You can get a "two physician hold" which two doctors would state that the treatment is medically necessary and treat the person. Patients with concusions may flail and fight. You can tie them down, physically or chemically. While it sounds harsh, it may be necessary. I watched this video a couple of times. The last shot shows his neck snap upwards and then slam his head. While we are now aware that his neck isn't fractured, we didn't know then. There are some parts of the scene that are missing. He should have been strapped on a board and taken away. I know of a situation where a woman walked into the er after falling down the stairs, and left as a quad because she was allowed to pull off her neck brace before her xrays were cleared. She had beenfighting earlier, as head injured patients often do. unfortunately, health care staff often doesn't recognize it as part of a head injury, but view it as an unruly patient. I'll stop now before it sounds like the speakers corner.
