Gawain 0 #7 July 11, 2007 Mercedes Benz cars last so long, they drive like new for so long....a long time. The only thing I would look into are any upcoming maintenance thresholds, etc. Because, while they last forever, maintaining them costs a bit above the "average".So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! I used to think the same way until I knew a few people that owned them (mercedes in general - not that car specifically). I was shocked at how poorly they held their value - especially over 100k miles. Also the service is expensive and both owners (5 cars and an suv in total) had not any major problems, but what seemed to be an unusually high amount of small problems (ie: power windows not working). I love all German cars; Mercedes, BMW, Audi Volkswagen, but I wouldn't buy anyone of them except BMW's because they're all put together in Mexico, which means they amount to pieces of shit. Everyone I talked to has either major problems with these cars. Only BMW's are originally still manufactured in Germany. Casurf1978 0 #11 July 11, 2007 I think this is true with the older Mercedes, but the newer ones are plagued with problems. My friend bought a brand new C230 in 2006. Here's a list of problems he has had: 1. replaced the radiator at 30K miles. 2. A/C problems at 20K miles. 3. Has had to replace the battery 3 times in the last 12 months. Mercedes doesnt know why the battery doesnt hold a charge. My old boss bought his wife I think it was the SL 55, $95K dollar car. Well one day she was about to get on the freeway and ALL the airbags deployed. Quality control across the whole Mercedes Benz line has declined in the last couple of years. pre7117 0 #12 July 11, 2007 If you buy the low end of any make of car you will get the problems no matter what company. If you look at the 500 & 600 models you will not have any problems. I have a 2003 SL500 and have never had any problem with it. I really think that they put lower quality parts on the lower end to make them cheaper to sell. But you will never ever get another Benz like the ones that were made before they bought Chrysler.HELLFISH 429 POPS 11113
usedtajump 1 #13 July 11, 2007 Mike, be very careful with any late 90s / early 2000 Benz products. I had a brand new 1999 C320 and that car was such a POS that within six months I traded it in on a new Lexus. A friend of my wife bought a brand new 2000 SLK 230 and it was pretty much the same story reliability wise. Kind'a reminded me of the old Pontiac Fiero. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
