Do you remember your first bicycle?

Recommended Posts

Yep. I remember but I don't know why. It only lasted two days. High-speed run down the hill with a power turn to the right at the bottom and smack into a parked truck.

My reality and yours are quite different.

...It was 'supposed' to make your bike sound like it had a motor on it.
You used a playing card or baseball card and a spring clothes pin. You attached the card to the fender bracket so the spokes clicked on the card.:D

Bejeezuz...I keep thinking of some of those baseball cards we used.... Damn, I wish I still had some of those cards from the mid-50s.

I had an old Schwinn Bike... with massive (as I remember them) Chopper style handle bars, a banana seat, and a "grinder" that made engine noises on one handle.

my "second" bike was also a Schwinn and both of them were hand-me-downs from my dad and his sisters (we found out years later that they were more or less considered antiques...

We were poor and could not afford to buy a bike, so we'd go to the local rubbish dump and scrounge for bike parts and build our own.

At least you make me feel good that I helped someone. :)
They said they didn't take old bikes, but I could put it in back by the dumpsters. They said that it'd be gone by morning. They'd have alot of people come by their shop like I did and when they followed their directions the bikes were always taken.

It was a Tanzini 10 speed racing bike from back in the 70's. It'd taken alot of hits, but with a little love would be in shape to be back on the road again.

I never followed up to find out if my sister's bike was a lucky one as well, but most likely it was. :)

My first one was a little blue bike with training wheels, I became a real bike after the training wheels came off. I still have a huffy that I bought almost 30 years ago. When I went riding with my kid he was on his "cool" BMX and I was on my "old fashion" bike, Now days he thinks mine is "cool" because it's a classic.

Yeah, nice red, 20" wheels. And training wheels. Only used them the first day, then my Dad said they had to come off so I could learn. He did the usual thing, holding the seat while he ran alongside. After a while I noticed he wasn't there, turned my head and saw him about two houses back. I promptly crashed, but that was the beginning. The next day I was riding up and down the sidewalk like I was born to it. Took a bit longer to get the braking thing down, after running into one parked car and some little kid down the street....

Very first bike of course red tri-cycle , next Big wheel , damn those things were a blast - they count right ? - skipped right over the traditional bike from there to a mini-motorcycle then ATV's 3wheel - 4wheel, but eventually got a brand new Huffy offroad bike as a gift around 8 years old . Does that count ?
Who is picking up the tab for all of this ?

slightly off-topic:

High school geometry teacher hd a Varoom Motor in his desk and would occasionally blast it in class.

For you youngsters, a Varoom Motor was a little sound machine (varoom vaROOOOOM) incased in a plastic replica of a motorcycle motor. You mounted it on your bike.
