1969912 0 #6 June 10, 2007 Still clicking through all the pics. Cracking up. Is jp-en translation really that difficult, or are these just examples of sloppiness? couple more: http://engrish.com/detail.php?imagename=prohibition-on-penetration.jpg&category=Signs/Posters&date=2005-11-21 http://engrish.com/detail.php?imagename=yomiuriland-gondola.jpg&category=Signs/Posters&date=2005-11-30 http://engrish.com/detail.php?imagename=bar-vulva.jpg&category=Signs/Posters&date=2005-10-14 "Once we got to the point where twenty/something's needed a place on the corner that changed the oil in their cars we were doomed . . ." -NickDG
mayanosuke 0 #7 June 10, 2007 I’m guessing they are using software to translate. JP grammar is totally different structure than EN. This is one of the reasons why you shouldn’t use those translating software, at least for Japanese.
mayanosuke 0 #8 June 10, 2007 Although some are just bad spelling....Note: There are no "R," "V," "F," or "TH" sound in Japanese. R pronounced more like L V pronounced more like B F....pronounced more like H TH...pronounced more like Z

johnsw71 0 #10 June 10, 2007 These are usually cases of normal Japanese followed by unfortunate attempts at English translation. The English in this first one though (about looking behind you when you fart, but not when you smoke) is actually a spot-on translation. This has to be one of the oddest signs I've ever seen in Japanese. Gawain 0 #12 June 10, 2007 Quote I’m guessing they are using software to translate. JP grammar is totally different structure than EN. This is one of the reasons why you shouldn’t use those translating software, at least for Japanese. My wife was born and raised in Hokkaido (Furano and Sapporo). Her specialty is translation and interpretation of English to Japanese and vice-versa. Even though she is very experienced at it, she still seeks help from time to time. She'll ask about certain contexts, etc, and finally proclaim something like, "English is a stupid language." ... ...So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Fozz 0 #13 June 10, 2007 I worked fro a Japanese company for 7 years in the high tech arena. The Jingenglish was often funny and sometimes scary, engineers are the worst at translating and we had 3 full time translators that still struggled to make sense of some things but at least the tried hardJohn Fosgate "In the end, its always best to choose the hard right over the easy wrong."
