WhuffoNoMo 0 #1 August 11, 2006 I figured goggles would be an easy 1st gear purchase but I tend to make things more difficult than they are. I come from a family of riflemen and am well versed in guns. We've always used different colored lenses for different objectives. In the sky... I have no targets and the trees aren't causing a contrast problem - so why so many color options? If anyone knows what color is best for what lemme know! Also - is there a one pair does all out there (interchangeable lenses of course!) Thank ya thank ya oh yea, this l&b altitrack doohicky looks pretty sweet - yay or nay? NWFlyer 2 #2 August 11, 2006 There's definitely goggles out there with interchangable lenses. I had a pair for a while (can't remember the brand) but the foam fell apart pretty quickly. I'm back to using good old Flex-Z goggles and, personally, really two pair is all I need: clear and moderately tinted (I like amber), and actually all I have right now is clear. I think more colors / shades is more a matter of personal preference - if you regularly jump somwhere very bright, you might want darker lenses. For me, amber works well because I jump in the Northwest where the light can be dimmer. I always like to have a pair of clear for sunset loads and other low-light conditions. Edit to add: you might want to do a search on the altitrack to get some thoughts on that."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
Reginald 0 #3 August 12, 2006 Clear. A person's eyes are the best way to communicate in freefall and as a student your instructors will want to see your eyes. In some aspects of the sport 4 way for example tinted visors are a big no, no as it makes eye contact difficult."We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. ahegeman 0 #4 August 12, 2006 Quoteso why so many color options? Duh - so you can make sure your goggle tinting matches your jumpsuit. The most important thing about buying gear is to make sure you look cool on your way to the plane and in photographs.--------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry
