airtwardo 7 #26 June 9, 2007 I spent about a month in Houston's city jail one weekend! Case of 'Mistaken Identity'...a boat load of warrants from area of Harris county I've never even BEEN through! Three days of standing ankle deep in piss & puke in a 40 X 60 room with 100 dirt-bags will convince ya in short order that there are much better places to spend a weekend! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

Richards 0 #28 June 9, 2007 Quote Quote About the same as a large prison... just on a smaller scale. Are you sure? I always had the impression that since local jails were mostly small time offenders, the risk of violence and gangrape would be significantly reduced. Never been to jail so I don't really know but, it would seem that there would at least be that distinction. Being in a max pen with hardened criminals, murderers gangsters and guys who are never going to get out and have nothing to lose would scare me to death (I would still be somewhat nervous if sent to a local jail). My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
Richards 0 #29 June 9, 2007 Quote Being the Brave Macho Mega man I am, I do the only reasonable thing. Drop to the ground in a fetal position, Cover my head and start praying. Hey, we are likeminded heroes. I usually would do something similar but also lose control of the bladder, and start crying. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I think the bad people's first stop after they get busted is the local jail, then maybe a regional jail while thier wait for trial etc and then when their convicted they go to the big house. with the other convicted bad people. So your cellie in jail could be in for lots of different reasons. If your lucky and their not to crowded they might segregate the really bad apple's from the short timers.Don't piss off the corectional officers/jailers
smiles 0 #32 June 9, 2007 memories for a 16 yr. old raised to adult court and sentenced to 2 weeks in prison for "failing to appear"- what a wake up call! -shoved in a room with bath tub and nothing but mirrors on the walls- told to take off your clothes and get in tub for bath while female guards stand watching......having your hair doused with solution for lice, having to bend over naked while checked for drugs up the arse.......thrown in 24 hr. lock up with junkies and then transferred into a cell with inmate that had drowned her baby in a bathtub- (2 yr. less a day charge) -as insulin dependent diabetic getting taken daily to nurse office for injections with guard to make sure used syringe was disposed of- and the rest of the day hassled for syringes from junkies- I did shed some tears and started writing my life story on ass wipe- recall lining up in hallway to get coffee cup before going to eat the horrible food--going back to court to be charged with fraud under $500. with 3 months definate/ 9 indefinate in a rehabilitation center for "young ladies"- Here work was mucking chicken barn every a.m.- (will never forget the smell when those barn doors opened) feeding the chickens and collecting eggs- washing shit off them- then shoveling shit into wheel barrows that were pushed onto field outside to be shoveled on to property ........mmmm- "rehabilitation" As minimal security a friend did get to visit and slid me a pack of cigs across the table when guard not watching. It was so exciting not to get searched after visit and return to my room to open up package and find gold seal carved out of brick of hash perfect to fit in pkg.!! I ate grams of hash daily before chicken barn mucking- "entertainment." Duties for rest of day: scrub walls and floors etc. Made leather wallets & purses, sewed xmas stockings, made license plates. Took 3 months for my lawyer to appeal charge and one day was told I could go- my charge had been dropped- no parole-no probation. (my mother charged me for writing $45.00 check on her account) Bummer I didn't understand "charge being dropped" and learned big lesson traveling to Bush's country. I had crossed the border and was pulled over for drivers licence check- woops, arrested, taken to jail by police that were way more aggressive than what I'd experienced........ told they could keep me 2 yrs. in jail as had been charged in Canada-not allowed to cross border..........WTF.........they did release me and eventually did get a pardon in Canada but that doesn't mean I can enter the states. Lastchance 0 #33 June 9, 2007 Imagine being in the same pod with 30 or 40 other guys overcrowded, people yelling, complaining. and generally being pissed off cuz they are there, Drinking shitty coffee and being fed beans 3 days in a row in different forms with open air toilets, everybody farting and burping and making the whole place smell like a sewer. Being fed shitty food in general all the time. Watching COPS and true stories of the highway patrol (really) on the tube. I couldn't believe this is what they wanted to watch. Punk ass kids who think they are badass until you put them in their place. Junkies, drunks, you name it. I spent a week doing this and I swear I will never do anything to end up there again. I have friends that have done extended periods in county and city jails and also prison time. They have all said that if you have to spend extended periods of time its better to do it in prison because you do have more freedom.... Being able to work, and exercise and just being able to recreate to some extent where as in county or city you are very confined. Don't get me wrong about all this, jail is not supposed to be fun. I did the crime and I did the time. Hope I never have to go do it again. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.

BillyVance 34 #41 June 12, 2007 I did spend a night in the special needs wing of the county jail several years ago. I was mad as hell for getting put in jail in the first place so everybody left me alone, not that anything would happen in that wing anyway. It's full of trustee inmates anyway. It was probably the most embarrassing moment of my life, getting hauled away from home with nothing on but a pair of shorts. And if you have to know why, I threw a lamp across the bedroom. I threw it hard enough that it went THROUGH the door! My wife was in one of those "won't leave me the hell alone so I can sleep" modes and trying to quote the damn bible. She has spent the last few years trying to make it up to me...
