livendive 8 #4 June 15, 2007 Absolutely, and I had some for lunch today. However not everyone can smell aspartic acid (and I don't believe all produce it in detectable quantities). 1969912 0 #5 June 15, 2007 I had heard that whether it does or not depends on some kind of enzyme that some people have. 1969912 0 #8 June 15, 2007 I was. Don't like getting involved with others' pee. Interesting, though, how genetically linked the asparagus response is. French people are most susceptible, Brits ~45%. Being Irish, my susceptibility is probably close to the British. dorbie 0 #16 June 15, 2007 QuoteDoes eating asparagus make your pee smell bad? Emphatically yes. It is temporary though. Apparently some people do not suffer from asparagus stinky pee, because they do not break down the culprit chemical. I have personally noticed this correlation after learning about it, and I wouldn't say it's really terrible, just something you might notice.
Snowwhite 0 #17 June 15, 2007 I was reading this on a package of bladder meds. Thought you might get a kick out of it. Warning This product may discolor your urine to a reddish-orange tint it will discolor your soft contact lenses. BelskyBlueEyes 0 #19 June 15, 2007 Indeed it does. Eating beets can turn it a pinkish/red hue, that's nice and scary. And on a side note, for any nursing mothers, do not eat asparagus! The same chemical can make its way to breast milk and the baby may not like it.
