Relative Newbie buying first jump suit regarding Booties

Recommended Posts

Hi, i am a relative newbie to skydiving and am buying my first jump suit, i will be looking into getting into RW and so have been pricing some RW suits up, i might be being rather stupid but does having booties on a jump suit cause any different movement than it would if i was jumping a jumpsuit without booties, just dont wanna exit and find myself in a spin because the booties are catching air, is there anything i need to consider when buying? Or do the booties just make you more airodynamic with no other side effects which could potentially cause me problems, please help :S

Yep, you want them. I got used to them (50th jump?) after about half a dive. If you're not gonna get booties, you might as well jump in your jeans and a tight top.

Exactly

My wife has been refitting full sized booties on a lot of people who have had "recreational" booties.

Good jumpers are thrilled with full sized and powerful booties. Not so good jumpers are a bit intimidated. What that means is - when you have control and keep them pressurized, they add a TON of mobility and performance.

Not only should someone get booties, they should get the MEGA booties where offered.

(For newbies, it's easy to tuck them in if they add TOO much performance at first. Anyone trying to sell you a suit without booties is likely hoping to sell you another suit with booties in a few months to make a bit more commission ;))

To the original poster, there are a ton of postings on this subject in the RW forum.

here's one - and it's not about just competition, it's about having the right tools to fly

Thanks for the info, have read all the threads and havespoken to my instructor, i now know what i am going to do and am looking forward to ordering and taking delivery of my new suit! By all accounts from some of the people i have spoken to today symbiosis suits seem to be really good suits and as i am based in the UK looks like it could be the best option. Does anyone have any input on symbiosis suits and what they are like, have seen a few and they look great and they ahve some good reviews, does anyone here jump one? Are there any bad points about them or is it all good?

Yeah, get measured by someone that KNOWS what they're doing - ie go to a dealer / pop down to headcorn. They MUST fit right in order to be effective. They're safe regardless, but you want them to be effective.

If going with Symbi, get their fully jazzed up competition suit. Worth the extra money.

I used to jump one back when i did FS! ;) There are lots around the UK. Good suits.

it usually pointless to ask about specific manufacturers on this site, in the end, people will just recommend their personal favorites. Although horror stories on long delivery time, bad fits, etc is always good to know for who to avoid.

The features (big grippers, booties, cordura where it's needed, inside leg grippers) are what's really important.
