Twoply 0 #1 June 12, 2007 I just picked up 17" LCD monitor at a garage sale for $5. Yes $5.00. I wasn't expecting much at all but when I plugged it in, I got a great picture, for about 6 seconds. Then it just goes black. When I turn it off and on again, it does the same. Great picture, just not there very long. Is it worth it to have it fixed or is it a great item for target practice? mnealtx 0 #2 June 12, 2007 power brick or direct plug in? hard-wired input cord or removable? Do you get any sort of default pic (like "input signal lost" or similar) if you turn it on without it being connected to the computer?Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. 1969912 0 #3 June 12, 2007 Someone gave me an LCD monitor a while back. It had intermittent problems, so I took it apart and just wiggled all the connectors. It was a flexible PC connector (looks like a thin plastic film with stripes (conductors) running along it) that must have had a bit of contamination or something on it. It connected the main PC board with the LCD panel. By just disconnecting it from the connector and wiping it with a Q-tip, the thing started working fine. Electronics are usu. pretty reliable after initial burn-in, so your problem is most likely caused by a crappy connection inside. If that doesn't work, just shoot it. Morrison79 0 #4 June 12, 2007 Depends on how old it is. If you take it to a TV repair shop you are typically looking at $50 to $100 just to look at it and tell you what is wrong. If they think they can fix it, they will charge you whatever the parts and labor are but with no promise it will work. On the other hand you could go out and buy a brand new tv of that size for around 150 to 200. I suggest putting it on Ebay and ripping someone else off and take the profits towards a new TV.
