Who knows Modesto, California?

Recommended Posts

I have an opportunity to move there. I've been there, and was not all that impressed with the town itself, but loved California.

The good part is that it's roughly halfway between the mountains and the ocean, only 2.5 hours from Yosemite. The best part is that it's less than an hour from Lodi.

If you live there or have lived there, do you like it? Would you move back? Most importantly, how are the schools?

It's been a long time since I was there, my ex-wife was from near there, in Merced. If it hasn't changed in 10 years, my suggestion is to RUN THE OTHER WAY!

Modesto isn't great. I wouldn't want to live there. We had a brief stopover there on a choir tour, and most of us didn't feel safe walking around there. Just my opinion. It's been a while, though. Might've changed.

Do people in choirs ever feel safe:D:D:D

Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.

I just spent two weeks there. I can sum it up for you.

Modesto is a dirty piece of crap of a town. Traffic sucks, the people suck, the town sucks the scenery sucks the social life sucks and anything that can be hotwired or lifted by three or less people will get stolen.

But hey... maybe that's your thing.
It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye

I would stay away from that paticular area, Stockton Modesto and so forth. It doesnt have the best rep for being a "safe" place and the summers suck there too[:/] But like someone had said Discovery Bay is really nice, there are some nicer cities closer to sacramento also that I would look into. Elkgrove, Galt and maybe even Lodi....

Modesto is not among the top choices. It's about 30 miles from Merced, which is a much more pleasant locale and going opposite of the normal brain drain that occurs here in the Central Valley.

Do you like farms? Do you like the smell of farms? Do you like bad air? Do you like meth? Do you like hot summers? Do you like car theft and other crime?

If yes, you'll LOVE Modesto - a place that even Fresno laughs at!

My wife is hotter than your wife.

I read the thread title and thought, "Yeah, I've been there a few times, and it sucked". I wasn't going to say that, because in the OP it sounded like you were moving there, but I guess everyone else agrees with me. I used to live up in the mountains in Arnold on Highway 4, so Modesto was the closest big city. I'm not really into big cities, so I didn't go there too often.
