1969912 0 #101 May 21, 2007 Here is a thread that was started by the guy who made the puzzle. His name is AtionSong. I looked for and found it after I gave up on the puzzle at 14 a couple days ago, but didn't want to spoil anyone's fun by posting it here. Plus, it's enjoyable to watch people sufferIt doesn't just hand out answers, so here it is: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19014 "Once we got to the point where twenty/something's needed a place on the corner that changed the oil in their cars we were doomed . . ." -NickDG

They seem stuck too, but at least there is an official clue posted. Nightingale 0 #113 May 22, 2007 Highlight for answer to floor 12. Do NOT highlight if you do not want the actual answer. the answer is "in place of me" Edit: I was thinking of a different level... in this one, you have to look very carefully at the hint. It's better explained below.
SpeedRacer 1 #114 May 22, 2007 how could you decode that? the sentence isn't long enough to do it by frequency of letter use etc. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
Nightingale 0 #115 May 22, 2007 Dumb luck, IIRC.
SpeedRacer 1 #116 May 22, 2007 I found the answer by googling. but I don't know how it was arrived at. and how could it have been scrambled? all the words in your solution have the proper number of letters. and the letter g is in the correct place (only letter that occurs twice) did you cheat by googling or what? Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
SpeedRacer 1 #117 May 22, 2007 just went over it again. There's no way you can just decrypt it based on letter frequency or word usage such as: --- The most common two-letter words in order of frequency of, to, in, it, is, be, as, at, so, we, he, by, or, on, do, if, me, my, up, an, go, no, us, am ------ It's a four word sentence and each letter is used only once except for g which is used twice. There's just not enough info to decrypt it. So how can you decrypt it "just by dumb luck"??? SpeedRacer 1 #120 May 23, 2007 Just tried it again using a Caesar shift type of thing. It still doesn't make any kind of sense. How did you guys arrive at the answer? Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
1969912 0 #121 May 23, 2007 QuoteOK, did anyone figure out the floor 12 one without cheating? this one: Floor 12 Excellent, you can rotate letters and move them. What else could you need...? Xc dkfig po wg It was partly luck. If you still want to figger it out, but just need a clue, several posts above I hinted that you need to use the correct cryptogram solver, otherwise you end up with way too many combinations to deal with. I don't know anything about cryptograms, so I ended up using the right one by just trying a few. Google Cryptogram Solver, and use the 4th hit down at OneAcross.com. It will output a very short list for you to play with. If you have the answer already and are just curious how others got there, just hilite below (WARNING, SPOILER). First, I ended up using the right cryptogram solver, which outputted only eight rows of four words. The right solver is the Cryptogram Search at OneAcross.com. The output: IN PLACE OF HE OF LARGE IN HE IN LARGE OF HE IN PLACE TO HE TO PLACE IN HE IN LARGE TO HE OF PLACE IN BE IN PLACE OF BE Only three of those rows made sense as a phrase without rearrangement. IN PLACE OF HE TO PLACE IN HE IN PLACE OF BE None worked, so I thought I'd look at them more closely. Since two of the three rows were exactly the same except for the last word, I tossed one of them to get: IN PLACE OF HE TO PLACE IN HE So now you have two possibilities. Note that "HE is common to both rows. I started with the first one, IN PLACE OF HE. The phrase "IN PLACE OF" made me think that perhaps "HE" needed to be changed. I tried words that can be used in place of the word "HE" in sentenes. HE, ME, MY, YOUR, YOU,.... The first one I tried was "ME", giving IN PLACE OF ME. It worked! "INPLACEOFME" is the answer! I didn't use the clue, though, so what good would the clue have done? Here is how I think the clue relates to the answer. The clue was "What else could you need......?" I think he was saying "Dumbass, how much help could you possibly need without having to ask ME", the guy who built the puzzle?". So I guess the clue is saying "What else could you need, without using ME. The word "ME" is the one that worked to replace "HE". I'm not sure if that's what he meant in the clue, but it makes sense. Also, the phrase "What else could you need IN PLACE OF ME?" kinda makes sense. If you didn't get there by analyzing the puzzle at http://www.welovepuzzles.com/permalink/puzzle/7851/ , then you're probably not going in the right direction. The guy who wrote the puzzle gave a clue today. Here it is: =============================================================== =============================================================== I'm not sure what more unobvious clues I can give for Level 14 without completely giving it away, but I will reveal three things: 1 Most people are completely overanalyzing this. It is level 14, not the Enigma machine. 2 The puzzle found from We Love Puzzles ( http://www.welovepuzzles.com/permalink/puzzle/7851/ )is the puzzle I was refering to using the same coding method. 3 The answer is not a word (at least as far as I'm aware). I hope that these help at least a little. ================================================================ ================================================================ "Once we got to the point where twenty/something's needed a place on the corner that changed the oil in their cars we were doomed . . ." -NickDG
Nightingale 0 #124 May 23, 2007 The author pretty much handed you "me" in the hint. What else could you need? "me" The person writing the puzzle. You need to know how he's thinking. Once you know that, it's just a matter of finding the corresponding code.
SpeedRacer 1 #125 May 23, 2007 Judging from the other linked puzzle "Note of Interest" it appears we have 4 characters. In the Note Of Interest puzzle I'm guessing the gray rectangles are zeros. So I looked at the rows of numbers in Question 14 and thought maybe these are numbers written in Base 4. So going from top to bottom we would have: 36 691 76 256 I can't figure anything from there though.
