Meth sucks...
destoying young lives, communities, detracting from the life of everyone.

My understanding about rehab is that one is never completely "recovered" and in order to stay in recovery -you must "give it away." I didn't understand the meaning of that at first, but conclude that helping others with their addiction is a big part of staying in recovery.

I have been trying to educate myself on the drug-
as our Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan-(B.C. Canada) has announced a Addiction Substitution Treatment (CAST) trial -giving free legal, prescription pills (Adderall) to meth addicts.

Quote

Phoenix Beck would have gladly taken a pill to get off crystal meth. Hooked at 15, the Vancouver woman spent five years in spiralling drug addiction before getting a prescription drug to curb her cravings. Beck said she's thrilled Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan is launching a new treatment trial to provide prescription drugs to chronic cocaine, crack and meth addicts in the Downtown Eastside."It's just a really good starting-point for people to make the decision to get clean," said Beck yesterday. "Every day, I woke up and I just wanted to get high. It was ruining my life." Beck took Adderall, a prescription amphetamine used for attention-deficit disorder. Today, she's drug-free, and holds down a job in the renewable energy sector.

Can people with meth addiction be freed to find healing with prescription drug Adderall??

The stimulant-substitution program will need the OK from federal authorities for a clinical trial. The participants will be prescribed pills to be taken orally, monitored, given drug counselling and helped with social housing and employment.

Research in Europe and Australia has shown that oral drug substitutes reduce use, criminal activity and cravings in participants.

At the same time the Mayor pledges to cut homelessness, aggressive panhandling, and the open drug trade by 50 per cent before the 2010 Winter Olympics....."clean up the streets of Vancouver East Side"..............

The new hospital in my community will open 2008 and the proposal is to tear down the old....I would like to think the old hospital could be used for drug rehab center but have been told there is no known treatment for Meth users as mental illness (paranoid schizophrenia) is the outcome.

Hoping education will lead to understanding at least...,for myself.

Also hoping you find the help you need along with support. May be you will have to concentrate on yourself for awhile and what is best for your own health has to come first.

SMiles;)

I am going through the most difficult thing I have ever gone through.

.... but if you really want to get your life together, and I do think that's a good start, getting yourself in rehab, then, you will deal with it and win.

keep your hopes up, help yourself and don't feel guilt by her decisions; she is was not a kid anymore when she tried, and what you did telling her parents about, was probably the best thing to do.

I hope she has time to get herself treated and the best luck to you too.

Well....He parents gave her her car keys back today because she has to come back to run 'errands'...She told me last night that nobody should stop cold turkey and she wanted to wean herself off of it gradually. She even asked her mom for the meth I found back, saying she would get more anyway.

I found some pieces of paper towels rolled up with rubber bands in her purse. I thought it was odd but didnt take them. Can meth be soaked into paper? She seems to be on it today.

I told her parents if she leaves, shes dead. She will never return to a place of accountability.

Those are words of denial. She hasn't hit bottom yet and isn't ready if she wants to "wean" herself off of addiction.[:/]

I know it'll be hard but my advice is for you to step back and let her reach her bottom.

You dont get it. The bottom of Meth is losing all your teeth....open running sores all over and the scarecrow body. The very bottom is death.
Meth alters braincells....changes the personality.
If you let someone get to the bottom of meth addiction, its all over. Ive dealt with it first hand.

You're right. I don't understand Meth. Although I had a meth lab next door when I lived in Colorado and yes, I'm a narc...I busted it because they were putting our neighborhood in danger.

One does not become addicted at the first time. It takes a while to become addicted. Just help yourself and be a good example to her. If you need to talk shoot me a PM

Well that was paraphrased from a piece of literature I used to read at the start of the meetings. Reading is good for your recovery you know. I didn't personally do meth, but from my experiance the first hit of dust was horrible, and i didn't know wht I would ever do it again, but I did.

That came from no piece of literature. That is my story. I never read, nor went to rehab. I did it on my own. And damned proud of it.

Lisa,
I think what you did was great and I TOTALLY believe you......but, Im certainly not going to tell her your story. I believe you are the exception. And, she has depression and other issues that preceded the meth. She need mental and medical help on a number of levels.

I am mortified to think of how she is getting money. She has had no job for months and she is MUCH more sexually provocative than she was before. She is out till the wee hours of the morning "shopping" or "doing laundry" every night.

Her teeth are a few shades browner, she smells and she has sores all over.

Im afraid rock bottom is not recoverable and it is no more than months away. When I was there the last 2 days, she saw her son very little......

Two answers...

~Back in another life, I knew a lot of stripper type girls that would put meth into tissues and swallow it like a pill.
No nasty drain and the 'rumor' was it would save the chompers from falling out. (not true)

~If it's a paper towel, your guess is as good as mine, maybe just keeping the little ziplocks closed or in a bundle...
since you say she's smoking it, and more often than not once you have reached that stage, snorting or swallowing is a distant memory not revisited, so that's what I would be guessing.

~Maybe she's also doing crack, seen that wrapped in paper towels...cheaper and in many areas easier to get than 'gack'

I would have opened them, you know damn well it was drugs...she's a junkie with a kid, there IS no fucking around!>:(

Gonna get hard on ya here for a minute my friend...

You and her parents are enablers, you are killing her, and playing tiddlywinks with the possible happy future of an innocent child. You make a wrong turn here and that kid suffers down the road, maybe forever.

That's Bullshit!:S

And that's ALSO why if CPS knew about what was going on, that poor kid would be sleeping in a strangers house tonight.

You wrote a soul baring heartfelt story about your situation, it seemed as though you realized the gravity of what's going on here...go back and read what you wrote...you guys need help, not errands run.

Junkies DO NOT QUIT on their own...it's a sickness who's symptoms themselves, prevent that from happening.

Get help today, right now...this game of enabling someone to play Russian roulette, especially where a child depends on you guys, WILL bite you pretty hard when the 'tomorrow' you were waiting for to start treatment, is a date on a headstone.

Right now you are at a grand looking up at a bag lock with your hands in your pockets, ain't gonna fix itself and you're quickly running out of time with a definite and certain final outcome.

Take some action, it's not the end of the world my friend, it a new beginning.

TAKE SOME ACTION NOW!

See ehre's the thing, Rock Bottom is different for everyone, my rock bottom was pretty low, my best mates rock bottom was a little bit lower, he's dead.
Unless she can be scheduled in to a phych unit, her rock bottom may well be death.
Even if she is detained, if she is not ready to stop, it may well only be temporary relief.

The same aplies to you, if you are getting clean to show her it can be done, you are setting your self up for a very hard road.
You get clean for YOU and only YOU.
(it's not the only way to go, but so far it's proven to be the most sucessfull in all the lives I know that are clean)
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)

Here's a wake up call Mr. MethSucks:

The whole bunch of you are conspirators in the crime of child abuse and endangerment. You, her, the parents, the whole lot of you. Either get her some help or get that kid out of there before someone does it FOR you! What the hell are you thinking?!

I got the impression from the OP that the child is being well taken care of now by the grandparents and both parents of the child are getting help.

Lisa this is a family in crisis and they either don't know or don't care. Here's the question, would you let your young child spend the night over there knowing this story?
If the answer is no, they why should THAT child be subjected to this? Grandma gave the keys to an addict and maybe even the 'old dope back'. I was a cop once, I've seen what can happen, YOU know where this is heading. The child has no choice in this, what if the KID found the paper towels with rubber bands in mommy's purse?

WHAT DO I DO????

SHE IS NOT MY FAMILY,

HE IS NOT MY SON

I HAVE TOLD THEM EVERYTHING YOU HAVE TOLD ME

Depends on how much you care about her.

Care a bunch....do an intervention NOW.

Care very little...walk away. Clean your suit for the funeral.
