The BEST Vacation of Your Life...Where Did You Go?

Recommended Posts

Last year, I took Friday off from work and drove 4 hours to visit my family. I checked into the hotel at 1:00 p.m. (they let me check in early). And I went to sleep. I woke up at 6:00, met a friend for some dinner and drinks, and went back to sleep at 8:30. I slept until 9:30 the next day.

Then I met up with my family for a few hours. I went back to the hotel and slept. Another 9 hours uninterrupted. I woke up the next morning at 5:00 a.m., checked out, and was home by 8:30 a.m.

Best vacation ever. I slept A LOT. And then I came home early because I missed my wife and son, so I had a whole Sunday to spend with them and let the wife sleep.

I chartered a 46' Sailboat out of Tortola for 2 weeks of chillin' in the islands with 5 close friends. I've yet to be able to top that one so we are planning another in the next couple years.

I did that as well. Only for 10 days though but it was probably the best vacation of my life. 10 days of wearing board shorts and flip flops. Drinking exotic drinks, Sailing, Snorkling. No watch, No cell phone, No email, NO WORRIES!!. I love those vacations when I can unplug from reality.

I would say in 2000 when we went to the Espace Boogie in central France.

We drove from England, spent a week in Vicy for the boogie, then spent another week driving around the Massif Central, then the Rousillion area (S-SE france, where France meets the Mediterenean and Spain) andc then drove back through a few other areas.

The weather was awesome, the jumps were awesome, the sceneray was awesome, and the food and wine we awesome too.

Jamaica - Best place I've been so far. But I've got lots of places to visit yet.

One the most memorable parts of the trip was hanging out with the bus driver and a couple locals while the the ladies were all shopping. Drank some Red Stripes, got a little smiley with'em - We had a blast!

Sailing ship cruise (Windjammer) to the Windward Islands during a total solar eclipse.

The whole ship was full of astronomy geeks; interesting to talk to, full of knowledge to share, and since they weren't pros, they talked about lots of other stuff too. Free afternoon drinks; plenty of food. Whales, an erupting volcano, and time on islands that the big ships can't visit filled up the week. I got to dive off the gangplank even

It was incredible. Every night they'd turn the lights off on the top of the ship so that folks could look at stuff using the high-powered binoculars and telescopes.

Desire Cancun

Me, too! :)
At least I think so. The 17 day trip to Europe that I took with my husband is right up there -- walking thru Pompeii, strolling the streets of Venice, aaaahhh, the memories. But I have never been more relaxed than I was at Desire, and I met so many awesome people, that made it the best. :)

Jamaica.... Complete with maid, cook, bartender and taxi driver. Rented a house on hill where they filmed part of Cool Runnings.B|

.. Or maybe it was the same situation in Barbados

... or my brother's 7 day wedding cruise

.. or maybe it was the WFFC... every time

.. or Lost Prairie...
.. or...

Oh I know.. It was the 8 day tour through CA, NV, and AZ. Man we hit every cool spot available in 8 days... Big Sur, The Red woods, Six rivers, Death valley, Vegas, hoover dam, grand canyon, plus a whole lot more. Won $3000 in Vegas and bought my friends a heli ride in the Grand Canyon.B| And had money left over for a used pontoon boat when i got home.:D

My favorite place for a vacation is a family cottage in Western Michigan.

There's no TV... No internet... its within walking distance of the beach.

Its just one of the best places... Very Relaxing... an excellent vacation spot... :)

Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...

Bhutan, went there in 2004.
Best vacation ever.
Saw the most beautiful place (imo) when I was there.

Gorgeous!

Take out the pagoda-type house thingies and you have a picture of the scenery on Tiger mountain here in Issaquah...:)

All my vacations have been good, but the 2000 trip was probably the best. 3.5 weeks on the road camping, hiking, rafting to GNP and back. 2 weeks in Pairs and Amsterdamn in 01 was good too.:)
Edit to add the 97 river trip through Hells Canyon was damn good as well.........:)

Three trips come to mind. First was to India in 2000, which was really unbelievable. Really one hell of an experience, seeing a country that is part rich industry giants, and part shithole. That had to be my real introduction to world travel. I also visited Switzerland, France, and Italy in high school, but we didn't really get the full experience because the chaperoning teachers didn't have their shit together.

The second was my first trip to Lake Powell for a week of houseboating. Now the lake's largely dried up because of the drought in the area that has lasted years, but it was absolutely incredible.

The third is my recent trip to London to visit my brother while he was on his semester abroad. London's an awesome place to go, lots of things to do, really get a broad spectrum of culture outside the borders of the United States, but still in a very modern and upscale country.

So between the three, I would have to say India was the most awe-inspiring, just really gave me a whole new perspective on the world that I didn't have before. London's a close second though, and Lake Powell a VERY close third.

There is no 'middle class' in many countries. I'm sure many people have seen that...I know I did for sure in Jamaica. Either dirt poor living in shacks, or ultra-wealthy living in mansions.

Funny thing, though...the poor people were all just so very happy. :)

Best trip ever for us was the Boogie in Costa Rica about 10 years ago. Held at an all inclusive resort on the west side of the bay, we had Kapowsin's Twin Otter available for all the jumps we wanted to make, from noon to sundown each day. We averaged about 6 a day. The mornings were filled with snorkeling, hiking, and other adventures, the evenings with great dinners and drinks with friends, and cooling off in the pool or ocean, take your pick. It was not the fanciest place we've ever been, but it was close to perfect for us.:)
Cinque Terre on the Italian Med rates pretty high with us too. If only there had been skydiving.[:/]:D

OMG! Ditto! Costa Rica was magical. Jumping out over the blue ocean in a bikini with no shoes, landing on the white sandy beaches. Skinny dipping in the warm ocean in the middle of the night under a full moon. It was heaven! Life just doesn't get much better than that.

Cinque Terre was very special too! My favorite place in Italy!

corsica was a cool trip, fourteen days, first week just drove around the island with my car, went from camping ground to camping ground, the second week we rented an apartment on southern end. was just great!

one year i was greece, just booked the flight, werent even out of the airport, already had an apartment for a couple of days, the ride there, the guy that owned the place was a taxi driver as well, so the ride was even free of charge.. stayed two days, took the ferry to another island, got an apartment right at the beach, stayed again for two days, took the ferry to the next island, another apartment right at the beach.. and only the most beautiful spots.. the greece islands are quite bare, not all of 'em.. but the scenery is just beautiful, its all quite misty, see a little island peeking out here and there, some great archeological sites with amazing views.. people are really friendly, food was delicious too!
