Holy Smoke!

Recommended Posts

Man, it's smokey in Central FL these days from the fires. I'm really missing being able to get a breath of fresh air when walking outside. Rain, we need rain. B|

...and I thought this going to be about the religious practices of the Hopi indians.

No, that was not a PA on the Hopis.

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again
My reality and yours are quite different.

Ladies and gentleman, Pops Taylor! :P

Andrea, you are aware that if FL winds up getting any significant storm activity this season, you'll be to blame, right? :P

It can't be my storm, they said it is erratic and unorganized. That is so not me. :P

What about after adding copious amounts of alcohol? :P

That works! Then she'd have to pee copious amounts, thus giving the ground some much needed water!:D

My brother lives down the hill from Griffith Park & the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Huge fires there as well and a bunch of homes have been evacuated. Mostly, he's pissed because he just bought a new sofa & area rug last week and now they stink. I don't know if Febreze will help!

Kinda funny/wierd coincidence: while Charles was a student at UC Berkeley, he rented a house in the Oakland hills. Huge fire, hundreds of houses burned down, etc. Maybe he should stop living around hills...

My chest started hurting really bad last night and I thought I was coming down with another respiratory infection... but my girlfriend convinced me it was the smoke I'd been breathing all day.

Anybody else have burning lungs or throat? [:/]

As of this morning I can't even smell the smoke because I've gotten used to it... but I can still see it.

Well, supposedly the wind from your erratic unorganized storm is going to fan the wildfires and cause them to spread. [:/] So Andrea might not be a major threat, but she is cabaple of wreaking havoc! :P

I've mostly stayed inside, but it is bothering my allergies quite a bit.

Here's what I posted on another site:

I live 20 mile north of Daytona and the big fire to the south of us
(just north of the speedway and west of there) has burned over 6000
acres, has been going on for over a week now, and today it was so bad
I couldn't even take my golf cart ride to check on my animal friends,
pick up the mail, etc. Yeah, I smoke cigars, but ya don't inhale them
suckers and you could not breath at all outside this afternoon without
taking in a lung full of wood/grass smoke. Not very healthy.

And Andrea isn't contributing enough rain to make a tinker's dam of
difference.

How has it affected the jumping in FL. Are loads still going up, and if so, can you see surrounding fires while up there?

It depends on the day. Over the weekend, we were able to see the fires off in the distance in DeLand. It was fine then, but I've heard they had some slow-downs last week. I don't know about this week.

If things get big enough, you might bump against some TFR's for the firefighting operation...and those retardant bombers are kinda cowboys so you'll definitly want to check your airspace good before exit if they're operating in the area.

You're more than welcome to have ours. 6+ inches last weekend alone and it was raining most of the week prior and a little everyday since. They finally got a few loads up last night. ANd I guess I shouldn't complain, we didn't have the devastating tornadoes here that they had just a few miles west of here.
Sun, we need sun.
It's a gift, I don't try to explain it.

Myself and a colleague are working in Orlando at the moment (and I'll be staying on next week to hopefully jump - yay!) and we are probably the only two in the entire office that aren't wandering around with red eyes from all the smoke. I guess coming from London we're most used to polluted air than I ever thought we were!

It just rained. Yea! For once, a 30% chance came through! I'm sure it's from my storm, I'm so proud.

Definitely plenty of fires down in Florida. Looks like the Deland Complex is probably the batch of fires causing problems for you.

Airport Road – The Red Oak, Airport Road and Lee House Fires and multiple smaller fires have been combined into the Deland Complex. A Florida State IMT (Utley) is committed. The fire is burning in hardwood litter, palmetto and grass. Two new fires were reported in the complex on 5/9, with active spread, smoldering and open burning in the interior observed. Containment is estimated on 5/16. The fire is located 3 miles southwest of Ormand Beach Municipal Airport, FL.

Info for all active fires in the southern area is available at: http://gacc.nifc.gov/sacc/predictive/intelligence/SACCMorningReport.pdf
